Mayor Wilson’s Last Council Meeting

Community members say "Thank You" to Mayor Mike Wilson for 26 years as mayor and even more years of public service.

A packed audience attended the Dec. 5 Freehold Borough Council meeting to say their thanks and to honor Mayor Mike Wilson at his last council meeting.

The mayor was honored by three different associations at the meeting last night. First he was honored by the Freehold Center Management Corporation D.P.A. Downtown Freehold, then by The Freehold Borough Recreation Commission, and last by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, in which he was awarded The President's Distinguished Service Award. All three organizations thanked Mayor Wilson for his dedication and great years of service.

After multiple awards business returned as usual until the public comment part of the meeting where Councilwoman Sharon Shutzer, stepped down from the podium and addressed the rest of the council as a Freehold Borough resident. Shutzer thanked Wilson for his time as mayor and for putting the borough first.

“Thank you for sharing yourself and for sacrificing your family time so that we as residents can live safely and securely with our families,” said Shutzer.  “Most of all, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making it possible for my family and for me to live in this beautiful borough in which you have led into the 21st Century.”

With only the council’s comments left, all six council members praised Mayor Wilson’s service to the town of Freehold Borough and added their own personal stories of serving with him.

It wasn’t until the very end of the night that Wilson addressed the council and residents.

“It is finally here. It’s been a privilege to serve as your mayor for all these years,” said Wilson.  Ending the evening by addressing the council, Wilson said, “It’s been a great run Mike, Kevin, George, Sharon, John, and Jay, it’s been a pleasure serving with all of you. I bid you all a fond Farewell.”
