Township Committee Asks Residents to Celebrate Safely

The Freehold Township Committee announces December as "National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month" at last night's council meeting.

With celebrations filling up people’s calendars, the Freehold Township Committee has joined the Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse in urging residents celebrate their holiday season safely.

At the Nov. 29, 2011 Township Council Meeting a framed proclamation to make December 2011 “National Drunk and Drugged Driver Prevention Month” was presented to the Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse. Margaret Jahn, Program Director of the Alliance accepted the proclamation.

“December is a holiday month with lots of celebrations; we want to remind people to be careful this season and to celebrate responsibly.” said Jahn at last night’s meeting.

Besides the frightening influence related crash statistics on the proclamation, it also asks Freehold Township residents, business owners and employees to “make a conscious effort to ensure a safe and healthy holiday season for everyone, by not driving impaired, by being a responsible party host, and by intervening when someone you know attempts to get behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs.”

Councilwoman, Barbara McMorrow, presented Jahn with the framed proclamation last night and explained that “the Township is a partner to the Alliance in making the streets safer this holiday season.”
