The incumbents, in attendance at the Monmouth County Republican Party's election night celebration at the , said they were pleased with the outcome.

"I'm very proud that the township supported us. It's a great town with great people," Golub said.

Both Golub and Salkin credited Mistretta and Horigan with running a clean, issues-focused campaign.

"I want to congratulate to our opponents. They had a nice campaign," Golub said.

Salkin said he looks forward to another term in office.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be part of the government of Freehold," Salkin said.

When reached by phone Wednesday, Mistretta said she was disappointed with the election results but would continue to call attention to the problems she believes Freehold Township faces.

"We will continue to fight for a realistic program to reduce the township’s $65 million debt and the 13 percent of the budget that is spent servicing the debt. We will propose new rules and regulation that will make it harder to incur addition debt," Horigan and Mistretta said in a press release. "We may not have achieved seats on the committee but the frustration that we found in the citizens of Freehold have made us even more determine to change the way the committee does business. We will make them fiscally responsible and accountable to the people."
