Freehold High School Wins American Computer Science League All Star Competition

The four students won the most competitive division in the international competition.

(FHS) students came out on top of the American Computer Science League All Star Competition.

The international competition was held at West Chester East High School in Pennsylvania and featured schools from the United States, Europe and Asia. The team placed first in the Senior 5 Division, the largest and most prominent group in the competition.

"We scored 58 out of 60 points in the programming part of the competition and 54 out of 60 points in the short answer test on computer science topics, for a total of 112 points," shared FHS Teacher & Advisor, James Gill. "We tied with a team from Croatia and won the contest on a built-in tie-breaker!”

Students on the winning team were Tad Cordle, David Goldman, Kevin Jin and Thomas Mezaros.

The All Star competition was the finale of four other competitions throughout the school year. The FHS team earned a championship with a perfect score of 200 in the Northern Division, which led them to their victory in the All Star Competition.

"We are very proud that we achieved first place against very prominent schools including Thomas Jefferson High School from Virginia, High Technology High School and Bergen County Academies from New Jersey. We also beat out Poolesville High School and Montgomery Blair High School from Maryland and Lexington High School from Massachusetts," said Computer Science Supervisor, Joseph Iacullo.
