Freehold Township BOE Welcomes New Members, Appoints Superintendent

Ross Kasun will take over for Superintendent William J. Setaro, who retires at the end of June.

The Freehold Township Board of Education welcomed two new members during Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting.

Michael Amoroso and Jennifer Boutote Patten were sworn in to three-year terms, having received 1,119 and 1,022 votes, respectively, in certified school election results. Amoroso and Boutote Patten replace Mike Williams and Grace McMillan. Williams, who was a board member for seven years, and McMillan, who served for 18 years, were honored at a special meeting on April 28 special meeting.

Returning board member Jason Levy took the oath of office for a one-year term; he was the only candidate running for the seat and garnered 1,423 ballots. Michelle Lambert also won reelection, receiving 1,211 votes for a three-year term; she was absent at Tuesday’s meeting.

The board returned Mindy Wille to president’s chair, and Kay Poklemba-Holtz was reelected vice-president.

Board members voted unanimously on the following professional appointments: the firm of Kenney, Gross, Kovats & Parton to serve as board and labor attorney; the firm of Faytak, Veisz, Hopkins, Duthie, PC as architect of record; firms Willis HRH and O’Gormann and Young/G.R. Murray Insurance as insurance consultants; and the firm of Jump, Scutellaro and Company as auditor.

Following the reorganization, the board held a regular meeting and voted to appoint Ross Kasun to a five-year term as superintendent, pending approval of his contract by the Monmouth County Superintendent’s Office. Kasun, who is currently the superintendent for Colts Neck Township Schools, will replace Freehold Township Superintendent William J. Setaro. Setaro will retire in June after 11 years overseeing the district.
