Freehold Township High School Wins Central Regional Consumer Bowl

The Patriots will go on to compete in the state tournament.

Freehold Township High School’s Consumer Bowl team picked up another win at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Howell on Wednesday, April 13, this time in the regional competition. The Patriots competed against school from six other counties, including Voorhees High School, Ewing High School, East Brunswick High School, Monsignor Donovan High School, Somerville High School and Linden High School.

The teams competed in a game show format, answering multiple choice and open-ended questions on consumer issues such as credit, identity theft, banking, fraud and advertising.

Freehold Township won the 14th annual Monmouth County Consumer Bowl on Wednesday, March 23 before advancing to the regionals. The Patriots also won the county title in 2010 and 2009; the team won states in 2009 and a regional title in 2010.

The final round in this year’s regional competition was between Freehold Township High School and Voorhees High School. Freehold emerged the victor and will move-on to compete in the state finals on May 9 in Trenton.

Members of the Freehold Township High School team are senior and team captain Jackie Myers, senior Nicole Haas, junior Casey Moore, sophomore David Domke and freshman Samantha Fitzgerald. They were led by teacher Eric Falk, moderator of the school’s Consumer Bowl.

“The Consumer Bowl was established to increase young people’s awareness of consumer issues so they will be smarter consumers when they get out of school,” said Patricia Watson, director of the Department of Consumer Affairs. “These teens did a fantastic job.”
