FTEF Helps Local Teachers Secure Target Corporation Field Trip Grants

School field trips come in all shapes and sizes. From excursions to local parks and museums, to Broadway plays, field trips present a way for teachers to approach knowledge in a completely new way and for kids to have fun while learning. Field trips give children a chance to experience firsthand, unique learning opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.

However, with ever-increasing cutbacks, schools are finding it more and more difficult to bring students to museums, historical sites and cultural organizations. It is with this in mind that Freehold Township Education Foundation (FTEF) trustees Jill Sharon and Ann Novotny set out to apply for grant money from Target Corporation on behalf of Freehold Township teachers to use for field trips.

As part of the program, each Target store awards three Target Field Trip Grants nationwide – enabling one in 25 schools throughout the U.S. to send a classroom on a field trip. Since launching the program in 2007, Target has awarded $9.76 million in grants – providing 1.2 million students in all 50 states with the opportunity to enhance their studies in the arts, math, science and social studies.

Thanks to the help of FTEF grant writings, the following teachers in the Freehold Township School District will be taking their classes on trips this year:
• Stacy Kale, 6th Grade, Liberty Science Center
• Diane Fernandez,, 4th grade, Allaire State Park, Historical Village
• Tammy Struck, Music, Hip Hop Pinocchio (at a NJ playhouse)
