New Freehold Borough Schools Superintendent Hits Ground Running

Monday, April 8 was Dr. Rocco Tomazic's first Board of Education meeting in the role of Superintendent of Freehold Borough Schools.

The Freehold Borough School District officially has a new superintendent.

Dr. Rocco Tomazic took his new seat as the Superintendent of Schools at the Monday, April 8 Board of Education (BOE) meeting. Tomazic was named the new Superintendent of Freehold Borough Schools earlier this year, following the retirement of Elizabeth O’Connell.

While Monday was Tomazic’s first BOE meeting, he wasted no time and has already began getting down to business by inviting Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) Superintendent Charles Sampson to come visit the borough schools.

“I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Sampson and I know that they are doing a study called an Opportunity Index. What they are doing is analyzing all of the students who are in AP and Honors classes and access to the learning centers and academies. They are tracking that data back to the source community so that they can determine what is the opportunity of students who go to the high school district based on where they are coming from,” explained Tomazic. “He [Sampson] is working with me and the other superintendents to refine it further so that they can inform all of us of their theories of weaknesses and strengths so that they can go further with confidence.”

In addition to speaking to Sampson, Tomazic gave an update about working with the county to find extra classroom space.

“For a long time we have been trying to get the county to give us some administrative space so that we can turn the current board office into classroom space. Mr. Strimple got a call from the county executive saying that they cannot help us. So I am going to try to get myself back into their office to discuss this further, because this cannot be the last word.”
