Repairs Coming to Borough Schools

The Borough School District is putting their capital funding to work and making some upgrades in the schools.

In a budget presentation at the March 26 Borough Board of Education meeting, Business Administrator Patrick DeGeorge, explained where the almost half a million dollars the district has received for capital projects will go.

“We tried to select the projects based by proximity to health and safety,” explained DeGeorge.

The total amount of money the school district has received is $495,000. Of the total amount, $248,750 of it is going to the for a new cafeteria floor, mercury abatement for the replacement floor, replacement of the detection system, miscellaneous Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades – mostly with bathrooms and the replacement of exterior lights.

At the , $246,250 will be spent in repairs. Items that will be repaired there include a back up generator, miscellaneous ADA upgrades, replacement of classroom ventilators, repairs to the concrete sidewalk leading to the street and replacement of VAT and VCT flooring.

During DeGeorge’s presentation, the cost of each item was named and why each item needed to be replaced.

“Nothing is unsafe or out of code, but when you get a chance to touch something you have to make it up to the present code.”

According to DeGeorge, these repairs will go out to bid as soon as possible. If approval of these repairs go as planed, repairs in the schools could begin in July and be finished by the time the school's doors open in September.
