Freehold Township Advances to NJ State Senior League Tournament

Freehold Township defeated Holbrook Little League 14-4.

The Freehold Township Senior League baseball team defeated Jackson’s Holbrook Little League seniors, 14-4, in Howell during sectionals Monday night.

Freehold Township felled the District 18 champs in the fifth inning on the mercy rule, according to coach Lance Viscuso.

The senior league players advance to the state tournament, which will be held at the North Cumberland Little League Complex, 26 Hoover Road in Bridgeton, Friday, July 29 through Tuesday, Aug. 2. The team will represent Section 3, which includes Burlington, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Freehold Township will play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of the Friday night game between Section 1 champs Bergenfield and Section 2 winner North/East Vineland, said Viscuso.

The winner of the state playoffs will represent New Jersey in the Senior League Eastern Regional Tournament in West Deptford, Friday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 11, according to Viscuso.

In addition, Freehold Township Little League will host the Junior League Eastern Regional Tournament at Michael J. Tighe Park that same week.
