Freehold Township Varsity Lacrosse Aiming for State Championship

Freehold Township High School Varsity Lacrosse coach Mike Ferrando gives an inside look into the training before the 2013 season.

The 2013 spring sport season is yet to officially begin, but the Freehold Township High School (FTHS) Varsity lacrosse team is already eyeing the State Championship Tournament.

The lacrosse program at FTHS has been around for 15 years, but the team is yet to make it past the first round of the State Championship Tournament. For the last two years, Mike Ferrando has been the Head Coach of the Varsity lacrosse team and is hoping to make it into the state tournament and advance past the first round this year.

“This is the fifteenth year of the program and we have never gone past the first round of the state playoffs so that’s a goal that every class that comes through here knows. For this senior class, that is on top of their list; to make it to get to states and to win that first game and make it to the second round,” said Ferrando.

The team has big hopes for the 2013 season, but pre-season practice has not been easy due to the messy weather.

“It’s been a rough pre-season with the weather but we have a great group of seniors so we hit the ground running,” explained Ferrando. “We don’t prepare for that first game we just prepare to get better everyday.”
