A Look Back at Summer with the Freehold Boro YMCA
A slideshow of events YMCA campers participated in this summer was presented at the Borough Council meeting Tuesday night.
If the back-to-school-blues have already started taking affect in your household, take a trip down memory lane and relive summer with the summer camp.
From the Statue of Liberty to making ice cream at Long Street Farms, campers at the Boro YMCA did it all in summer 2012. At the Tuesday night Borough Council meeting Mel O’Neal, Outreach Director at the Boro YMCA, explained to the Mayor and Council how over 100 campers enjoyed a variety of activities this summer with a slideshow.
“The Y summer program is an eight-week program. We served 130 campers, employed 24 counselors, guided five leaders-in-training, and had three volunteers. We also like to mention that 20 of our 24 counselors are residents of Freehold Borough,” said O’Neal before showing his slideshow.

Following the slideshow, which included an original song about the YMCA written by campers Brandon Curet and Rakim Thorpe, the Council commented on the amount of smiles seen on camper’s faces.
“In the beginning of the year Mel comes in and shows us the schedule of what the kids are going to do this year. I think it was this year that you [O’Neal] came in feeling bad because you had to cut some things due to financial hard times, but I don’t see any smiles that were cut,” said Councilman Michael DiBenedetto
