YMCA Literacy Program Gets Boost from United Way Grant

A $22,400 grant will help prevent the "summer slide."

A $22,400 grant from United Way of Monmouth County is keeping students in the YMCA Community Center summer program from the “summer slide,” according to News Transcript.

Students are at risk of forgetting the lessons learned during the school year, and the Early Grade Reading Summer Program grant aims to bridge that summer gap, News Transcript reported.

The Summer Reading Literacy Program is collaboration between the YMCA and the Freehold Borough K-8 School District. The program is incorporated in the daily activities at the YMCA Summer Borough Recreation Program, News Transcript said.
