Freehold Intermediate Boys Soccer Team Posts Historic Season

The Freehold Intermediate boys soccer team has swept their season, 12-0, a first ever in the history of the school.

The Freehold Intermediate School Boys soccer team has a lot to celebrate - they finished their regular season 12-0, a feat that has never been accomplished in the school's history. Coached by Freehold Intermediate teacher Chuck Latshaw, the team dominated against some strong competition. Overall, they scored 55 goals during the season, giving up just nine goals over the course of twelve games. A total of 30 goals during the regular season was scored by eighth grade student Andy Rizzo, who led the team in scoring, exceeding the school record of 28 goals scored in one season, which included playoff games. Goals were also scored by at least six other members of the team throughout the season. The lead goal scorer also proudly represented Freehold Intermediate School in the middle school league’s All Star Game, where he was named MVP.

According to Coach Latshaw “We are extremely proud of the team’s accomplishments. Many of the boys on the team have played together for two or three years during the grant run after school/summer program. Their passing and control of the ball is terrific and we look forward to a strong post season showing.” The team is comprised of twelve 8thgraders, four 7th graders, and two 6th graders.

The FIS Boys team continued their winning streak on Friday, October 26th at home in the first round of playoffs against Union Beach, winning 5-1. Superstorm Sandy has disrupted the playoffs, although the semi-finals are now scheduled for Monday, November 12th at 3:30pm at the Park Avenue Complex.

Freehold Intermediate School is located at the Park Avenue Schools Complex, 280 Park Avenue, Freehold. For additional information please contact Superintendent Elizabeth O'Connell at 732-462-2100.
