The Axelrod Performing Arts Center and The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County welcome The National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene presentation of Travelling the Yiddishland on Sunday, February 10 at 3 PM. Tickets are $20 for Museum members, $24 for non-members, and $18 for students.
Created by Dmitri Zisl Slepovitch and performed by his band Litvakus with Michael Alpert, an outstanding Yiddish musician, dancer, and folklorist – it is a musical journey across the routes of Jewish history in 20th century Eastern and Central Europe – brought to modern audiences through original videos and live performance in Yiddish, English and Russian, with English translation supertitles. This 75-minute multi-media program (without intermission) includes rare Yiddish songs as performed by a young generation of artists, as well as traditional and original klezmer tunes, documentary footage, and storytelling. Travelling The Yiddishland is culturally relevant for all audiences, as it raises questions of identity, roots, and history.
