"Movie Magic and Lyrics"

Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County favorite Alla Axelrod will be returning to the Hayloft Stage on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 2 PM. She will be joined by her friends in a concert, "Movie Magic and Lyrics."  Admission is $18.00 for Museum members, $20.00 for non-members. 

Film music has provided some of the most memorable moments in cinematic history.  Much of that music has been composed by Jewish composers. Golden Age composers such as George and Ira Gershwin. Kurt Weill, Richard Rogers, Leonard Bernstein, and Harold Arlen will be featured along with contemporary composers Marvin Hamlisch, Andre Previn, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Randy Newman, among others in this entertaining and informative program.

Alla Axelrod has been performing on American stages for 35 years, since she emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1979. She has an MA degree in Piano, Composition, and Music Theory/History and has directed over 50 productions of Broadway musicals around the Tri-state area, as well as performed numerous piano recitals. Axelrod appears regularly in Ocean Grove as an entertainer and comedian, where “(e)very summer, the crowds gather from all over the state for her notorious open mike sessions at Nagel's Apothecary Cafe on Saturday evenings", according to a National Geographic article about Ocean Grove.
