"The History of the Sephardic Jews of Central New Jersey"

The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will present "The History of the Sephardic Jews of Central New Jersey", a lecture given by Dr. Nathan Reiss, President,  Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 6:30 PM.  Admission is free (donations are always welcome).  Light refreshments will be served at 6:15.

The first Jews in America were of Spanish origin and came with Christopher Columbus in 1492.  In the early days of the Unites States, most of America’s Jews were of Sephardic descent.  They became the majority of American Jews, and the Jewish population of Central New Jersey reflected this pattern.  Dr. Reiss will discuss the origin of the Sephardic Jews of Central New Jersey and show photos and documents that trace their experiences there.

Dr. Reiss, who has been engaged in the study of genealogy for more than 35 years and has written extensively on the subject, is a former professor in the Department of Meteorology and Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University.

The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County is located at PO Box 7078/310 Mounts Corner Drive, Freehold. For more information call 732-252-6990 or visit www.jhmomc.org.  The Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is handicapped accessible.
