AAUW Awards Scholarships

Kim Gilroy and Kathy Mulholland were recipients of the Freehold Area Branch AAUW scholarships.

The Freehold Area Branch of American Association of University Women awarded two scholarships during the organization’s meeting at Clifton T. Barkalow Elementary School on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The AAUW’s Lew Williams Scholarship was awarded to Freehold resident Kim Gilroy. Gilroy is working on her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work at Rutgers and expects to graduate in May 2013. She volunteers at “Kids Hope USA,” mentoring children at the Freehold Learning Center. She is also mother of two young children.

Freehold resident Kathy Mulholland received the Leila Sulkes Scholarship. Mulholland is a senior library assistant at Freehold Public Library, where she oversees children’s programming. Mulholland has also worked with the LADACIN Network, formerly known as the Cerebral Palsy Centers of Monmouth & Ocean Counties. She is working on a master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University and expects to graduate in May 2013.

The Freehold Area Branch of AAUW awards the two $2,000 scholarships on annual basis to Western Monmouth County women over 25 years old who are enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program.
