Friends of the Library Sponsors Book Sale

Fundraiser is held Fridays in July and August.

Stroll down Main Street on Fridays this summer and you may find piles of books for your beach reading pleasure.

The Friends of the Library are holding the Al Fresco Friday Book Sale in July and Aug. from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Friday in front of the Freehold Public Library, weather permitting. The event coincides with the Freehold Farmers Market for a reason: the book sale draws on foot traffic in town for the market, according to Freehold Township resident Connie Fitzgerald, a member of the Friends of the Library. In the past, the organization also held book sales during Kruise Nite, an event which was canceled along Main Street and revived at the Freehold Elks Lodge parking lot down the road. Nevertheless, the Friends of the Library find the outdoor restaurant crowd is also a source of book buyers.

“We get a lot of people out for lunch,” Fitzgerald noted.

Books are priced at 25 cents each and include a variety of children’s books, mysteries, thrillers and nonfiction. The Friends of the Library uses funds raised from the book sale to provide supplies and sponsor activities at the library. Most recently members of the Friends of the Library assisted with behind the library.

“[The book sale] is one of a few sources we have to support the library,” Fitzgerald said.
