Italian American Association to Give Away Scholarship

The IAA of Monmouth County and Mallamaci Tours teamed up to raise over $5,000 for college-bound students.

The Italian American Association (IAA) of Monmouth County and Mallamaci Tours sold raffle tickets to raise money for their scholarship fund.

The organizations hosted the drawing event at Pantano Nursery in Manalapan. "We collected $20,000," explained Gino Mallamaci, owner of Mallamaci Tours and IAA treasurer. "Of the money raised, $5,000 goes towards scholarships for high school seniors and the other $15,000 goes towards the trip."

The IAA scholarship was established in 2007 and provides money for college-bound high school seniors of Italian decent.

According to the application, "Finalists must demonstrate a serious interest in Italian culture, language and community involvement."

To qualify for the scholarship, students must have an academic average of minimum of 3.0, be a resident of Monmouth County, NJ. and a U.S. Citizen of Italian descent. Applicants must also show a serious interest in Italian language and culture, academic achievement and merit as well as involvement in community, academic and/or social activities.

The association will award the scholarships this month.
