Slideshow: Simple Supper Feeds Awareness

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Rose of Lima hosted the event.

Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church hope a simple meal will give people pause to remember the needy in their community. The organization held its annual Simple Supper in the St. Rose of Lima School cafeteria Wednesday evening. The dinner included a plain vegetable soup made from scratch, bread and butter, and cookies.

Claudette Cowie, co-chair of the church’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, said the group has been holding the Lenten supper for over 10 years. The simple food serves to remind parishoners of the needy in the community. The St. Vincent Vincent De Paul Society collected donations to support its mission.

“Our goal and concern is to aid the poor,” Cowie said. “The parishoners have been very generous. We use donations to assist people who cannot pay their electric bill or their gas or rent.”
