Celebrate Martin Luther King Day in Freehold

A look at events happening in Freehold this week.

In recognition of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a special interfaith ceremony is being held as part of a busy week here in Freehold.

The service is set to be held at 5 p.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church on Waterworks Road on Monday night. To learn more about the service call 732-462-0826 or email bethelfreehold@aol.com.

After the service a trip to the Chipotle location on West Main Street could be just the spot for a dinner to wrap up the day. From 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. a portion of the proceeds at the restaurant will benefit the senior class at Freehold Township High School.

On Tuesday night the Entrepreneurial Think Tank For Moms will host a special event at the Encore Banquet & Event Center starting at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the evening will be Eileen Strong who has a career as a public speaker and trainer that spans more than 15 years.

The Freehold Memorial Day Parade Committee will also be hosting a fundraiser on Tuesday night. From 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. 20 percent of pre-tax and pre-alcohol bills will benefit the fundraising efforts for the parade. The money raised helps pay for bands that play in the parade as well as other costs associated with the annual event.

When the Freehold Borough Council meets on Tuesday night several local groups will be honored including the Freehold Area Pop Warner National Champion Midget Cheerleading team, the Central jersey Group IV champion field hockey team from Freehold Borough High School and several members of the Freehold Borough Police Department who will receive special commendations.
