In 1875, St. Rose of Lima Church opened a one-story school in which one teacher taught sixty children. Now over four-hundred students receive preschool through eighth grade instruction in a large, two-story building complex in downtown Freehold. St. Rose operates varsity sports programs in basketball, softball, track and field, cheerleading, soccer and volleyball. A lower tuition rate is available to those who contribute service to the school.
