Down the Shore: FH Bike Race, Boardwalk Pageant, Festival of the Sea Carnival

What to do at the beach this weekend

Heading down the Shore? Check out this weekend's best bets: Hundreds of cyclists will race Fair Haven's streets Sunday for the fourth annual Tour de Fair Haven competition, featuring six races in a 1.7-mile enclosed course. Cyclists will compete for $10,000 in prizes, and proceeds from the event benefit the Fair Haven Foundation. The race starts at 7 a.m. at the Fair Haven firehouse on River Road. Talented young ladies will compete for the title of Miss Ocean City Saturday night. The annual pageant is open to the public and scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. Don’t forget how lucky we are to live where we live

It seems like just yesterday I was hoping for a snow day. And now, Memorial Day is upon us. Last weekend, we were not among the many who attended Bamboozle, my kids are a little too little and I am a little too old. Instead, we hit the Belmar beach on Saturday afternoon and thanks to a breeze from the right direction, got to listen to Bamboozle for free. We ran into a friend on the beach, there with her cousin, who was visiting from Bergen County. We were introduced and the cousin said something like, “It so great that you can do this all the time.” She is so right. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live to where we live.
