Biotechnology High School Ranked as a Top10 Vocational School

Rankings are in for Freehold Borough High School Freehold Township High School and Biotechnology High School.

Freehold High Schools have made the grade on New Jersey Monthly’s Top High School list. In the first ever ranking for Vocational Schools, Biotechnology High School comes in at number 10 out of 35. On the public school list, Freehold Borough High School comes in at 164 and Freehold Township is named 199 out of 328 schools. According to New Jersey Monthly, rankings on both lists are calculated through many categories including student-teacher ratios, graduation rate, combined SAT score, and combined average HSPA scores. On the Vocational School list, five Monmouth County Schools made the top 10, with High Technology High School in Lincroft coming in at the number one spot, followed by Communications High School in Wall, and Academy of Allied…

Local Teen Spends Summer With Liberty Science Center Program

Akhil Chakravarti is spending his summer doing research with a Liberty Science Center program.

One local teen is choosing to spend his summer furthering his education, although not by taking traditional classes. Akhil Chakravarti,16, is performing scientific research with the Liberty Science Center's Partners in Science program. More specifically, Chakravarti is researching possible countermeasures to potential terrorist attacks using agents of biological warfare, working with Debra Laskin, the Roy A. Bowers Endowed Chair of the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University in Piscataway. “Conducting research in a university setting is an invaluable experience, something that I look forward to when I wake up every day," Chakravarti said. Biotechnology High School Teacher Works with Top Scientists at National Laboratory

Dave Pinkus was one of twenty educators from across the country chosen to take part in immersive research program provided by The Siemens STEM Academy.

This fall, Dave Pinkus, a teacher at Biotechnology High School will return to his classroom with a deeper understanding of the practical implications of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts after spending part of his summer break engaged in an immersive research program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Pinkus worked with a team of scientists and fellow teachers to look at the construction and maintenance of neutron detection systems at ORNL’s Spallation Neutron Source and its High Flux Isotope Reactor. Their work was part of an elite fellowship program arranged by the Siemens Foundation, Discovery Education, Oak Ridge Associated Universities and the College Board. He was one of just 20 …

Summer Courses Offered at Biotechnology HS in Freehold

Fun science based, week-long camps offered for 6-8 graders.

The rigorous Biotechnology High School in Freehold is one of the career academies of the Monmouth County Vo-Tech system. It was recently chosen by US News and World Report as one of the best public high schools in New Jersey. Looking for a way to challenge your middle schooler this summer? The Monmouth County Vo-Tech schools have partnered with Brookdale Community College for a program called Camps-On-Campus. This program offers fun and unique learning experiences which take place at the individual academy high school locations. Camp participation will not impact application for admission to the vocational school district academy high schools. Newsweek Ranks Biotechnology High School #20 in the Nation

Freehold Borough and Freehold Township High Schools both made the top 1,000 as well.

Newsweek magazine announced the top 1,000 schools in the United States and three Freehold based schools made the list. According to the magazine, “This year, our ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads." Biotechnology High School came in the top 20, Freehold High School came in top 700 and Freehold Township High School made the cut by 30. Biotechnology High School Ranks #2 in NJ

Freehold Borough High School came in 51st within the state according to the U. S. News and Report.

Biotechnology High School in Freehold is ranked #2 in New Jersey and #17 in the nation on the U.S. News and World Report’s 2012 Best High School list. According to the U.S. News and World Report, the high school earned a perfect score in "college readiness". "The Biotechnology High School focuses on a collaborative learning experience that includes project-based learning, scholarly research, and interactive partnerships," describes the U.S. News site. They also acknowledge the schools senior internship program where high school seniors have completed internships at Rutgers University, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and area biotech firms. FTHS, Biotechnology Named in America's Best High Schools Ranking

Newsweek ranked the top high schools in the United States.

Freehold Township High School and Biotechnology High School in Freehold Township were named one of the Best American High Schools according to a study by Newsweek Magazine. Newsweek has been ranking schools for the past 10 years. The rankings are supposed to give a measure of success in challenging and preparing students for college and for life. This year, they changed their methodology for scoring each high school. Newsweek contacted administrators, principals, guidance counselors, and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate coordinators at more than 10,000 public high schools across the country to come up with the 2011 list.
