Calling All Freehold School Board Hopefuls

Election packets for Board of Education candidates ready on Wednesday

It’s nearly May and, naturally, time to think about November elections.  On Wednesday, anyone interested in running for one of three seats up for grabs on the Borough or Township Board of Education can pick up the necessary paperwork to begin the process of placing your name on the November ballot. There are three, three-year terms on the Township Board of Education available in the upcoming November elections. There also are three, three-year terms up for grabs on the Borough Board of Education as well as the Freehold Regional High School District board. Freehold Township BOE Approves 2013-2014 Calendar

The Freehold Township Board of Education (BOE) approved the Superintendent’s recommendation for the 2013-2014 calendar.

While the calendar has only recently changed to 2013, the Freehold Township Board of Education (BOE) is already looking towards the 2013-2014 school year. At the Tuesday, Feb. 12 Freehold Township BOE meeting, board members accepted the superintendent’s recommendation for the 2013-2014 academic calendar.  For parents looking to plan next year’s vacations, here is how the 2013-2014 school year is scheduled to run. FRHSD Reflects on Added Instructional Time

Students and Board of Education members give their opinion on added instructional time at FRHSD Board of Education meeting.

Three weeks into a new school year, Freehold Regional High School students are beginning to see the benefits of more classroom time. Earlier this year, the FRHSD Board of Education unveiled a new bell schedule that would give students two to three more minutes of class time in each period. During Monday night’s Board of Education meeting at Freehold Township High School, present board members and students reflected on the benefits they are seeing from the new bell schedule. “By adding five minutes to a school day and re-purposing 11 non-instructional minutes students benefit by 16 additional minutes of instruction in the classroom,” stated Heshy Moses, FRHSD Board of Education President. “That may not seem like a lot, but when you take it …

Contested Races for Board of Education Elections in Freehold

There are (3) three-year seats open in both Freehold Township and Freehold Borough.

In both Freehold Township and Borough, there will be contested Board of Education races in November. Prospective candidates had until Tuesday to submit petitions with ten or more signatures for the the board of education election. In Freehold Township, there are three (3) three-year term seats up for election this cycle. Kay Poklemba-Holtz, Chris Marion and Jason Levy are all up for re-election. There are 4 people running for those 3 seats. Incumbents are indicated by (I): In Freehold Borough, there are (3) three-year seats and (1) one-year unexpired term open. Ron Reich, Dr. Michael Lichardi and Maureen MacCutcheon currently hold the three-year seats and Susan Greitz holds the one-year term. There are 5 people running for those 3 seats. …

Last Chance: Run for the Board of Ed in Freehold

June 5 is the deadline to file for candidacy for the November election.

Let's say you're concerned about the services your special needs child is receiving at school. Maybe you think testing scores for your district should be higher. Perhaps the school portion of your tax bill just seems out of whack to you. Or there's the possibility that you think the education your older child is receiving is top notch and you hope that that level of excellence continues for your younger kids. Regional BOE Appoints Diploma-Mill Teacher to Stipend Position

The Freehold Regional High School District appointed Lorraine Taddei-Graef to a volunteer detention proctor position, despite concerns from residents attending last night's board meeting.

Last night’s Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education meeting featured a lengthy public hearing section, where some residents voiced concerns over the appointment of Lorraine Taddei-Graef to a volunteer stipend position. Public hearing Several members of the public expressed concerns over giving Taddei-Graef a stipend for a detention proctor position. Taddei-Graef was one district employee who was apart of the diploma-mill scandal in 2008, along with former superintendent James Wasser. The district said Taddei-Graef received her doctorate from an unaccredited university, and as a result her salary was cut by the district. The teacher has now petitioned the state to reverse that, and a decision from the state has yet to …

Freehold Borough Board of Education Defers State Aid

Additional state funding will be allocated to a future year's budget.

The Freehold Borough Board of Education agreed Monday to defer additional state aid to either the 2012-2013 or 2013-2014 budget.  Gov. Chris Christie announced an increase in funding for all school districts in the state last week. Business Administrator Patrick DeGeorge spoke to those in attendance at Freehold Learning Center Elementary School about the benefits of deferring the aid for the future.  "If we choose to use the aid for this school year, it's going to just end up moving revenue from column A to column B, as this lowers our tax revenue," DeGeorge said. "Long-term, we can see where we are at this school year and apply that aid accordingly to the areas most in need." DeGeorge elaborated when board member Dr. Michael Lichardi …

Funding is Approved by Borough Board of Education

Freehold Borough Board of Education unanimously approved the use of resources within the district.

The Freehold Borough Board of Education approved a lengthy agenda, Jan. 10. Funds for many projects were authorized including: personnel, equipments, professional development, and school trips.  Business Administrator and Board Secretary, Patrick DeGeorge, certified to the board that no budget line item account had been over expanded. A number of bills had also been submitted to be approved at a total of $508,703.61. These bills accounted for expenses, grants, and food services. DeGeorge authorized a request to advertise a proposal hearing for a Board Attorney, Auditor, Architect of Record, and Commercial Insurance Broker. “I want to look for proposals for these things,"DeGeorge said.
