Portions of a confidential Boy Scouts of America list kept for decades by the organization to document suspected molesters within their ranks were released earlier this week. Another batch of confidential "Ineligible Volunteer Files," some overlapping with the first set, is expected to be released Thursday on the order of the Oregon Supreme Court. Known colloquially to Boy Scouts executives as the "Perversion Files," the list contains names and allegations against thousands of Scout leaders who were suspected of sexually abusing young scouts and dismissed from their jobs within the organization, including more than 100 in New Jersey. The Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts will be participating in Scouting Information day by touting their organization at the Howell and Colts Neck libraries.
Interested in becoming a cub scout or boy scout? The Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts is looking to recruit new members and will be holding two information sessions on Saturday, Sept. 29 within the Monmouth County Library System. Information tables will be set up at the Howell Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Colts Neck Library from noon to 4 p.m. The Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts will be present to provide information about Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and their Venturing programs. The Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America and encompasses nearly 200 Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venturing Crews and Exploring Posts serving over 7,000 children between the ages of 7 and 20. Four members of the St Rose of Lima Boy Scout Troop 18 attained the Eagle Scout. Rank after completing service projects that have made a difference in the community. According to a study by the Boy Scouts of America, only 4 percent of scouts attain the Eagle Scout rank. The Freehold Borough Mayor and Council recognized the four local young men on March 24 at St. Rose of Lima and at their last regular meeting. “Not everyone can become an Eagle Scout. This is quite an accomplishment,” said Councilwoman Sharon Shutzer. In order to reach the Eagle rank, the scouts had to advance through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life.
