Brush left behind from Sandy is still being collected in Freehold Township. The Recycling Center is now allowing storm related brush to be dropped off.
While the calendar shows a new year, reminders of 2012 still line many of Freehold Township's streets in the form of brush waiting to be collected from when Hurricane Sandy hit Freehold. As of Dec. 31, Freehold Township’s brush collection map showed that the majority of the township’s districts have been cleared of brush left behind from the storm. However, some residents in districts E and F are still waiting for collection to begin. Freehold Township’s website states that Public Works has been taking an aggressive approach to the clean up, with crews working six extended work days a week, in addition to employing the services of multiple contracting agencies for equipment and services. Map shows in red which streets in town have had brush collected.
A special emergency brush collection update has been issued for Freehold Township residents. According to the township’s website, brush left from Hurricane Sandy has been continuously collected since the storm hit, however, despite the township’s best efforts, collection may continue well into January and February. In order to keep residents informed, the township has created a map that illustrates where brush has been collected in town. The red areas of the map show which streets have been completed. Areas that remain to be collected are not highlighted. The announcement states that the map will be updated often. As the weather turns cooler, the Freehold Borough Council wants to remind residents of the autumn brush and leaf collection. During the Monday night Borough Council meeting, Mayor Nolan Higgins discussed the schedule of brush and leaf pick up, and asked for Borough residents' help with proper grass and electronic disposal. “Freehold Borough will be providing brush collection services in the month of October; this will be the last opportunity to place brush at the curb until March,” explained Higgins. “If you generate any brush after October, you can bring it to the Public Works Center on Center Street during normal business hours or simply tie it and place it at the curb on normal trash pick up days." I have to disagree with the essence of this discussion. Every other town in the area has completed storm cleanup weeks ago. While we that happen to live in zone F deal with one lane roads and dangerous conditions with every rain or wind event. And what happens when it snows? The streets can not be effectively plowed or even salted in their current condition. To me it is completely unacceptable.   more ›
