Chris Christie underwent stomach-shrinking Lap-Band surgery in February, he confirmed to the New York Post on Monday night while refuting speculation that he was slimming down for a White House run in 2016. Christie quietly had the Lap-Band -- or laparoscopic adjustable gastric binding -- procedure done in a New York hospital, telling the paper that he agreed to the surgery at the urging of his family after turning 50 in September. Gov. Chris Christie is the best person to lead New Jersey over the next four years, according to voters recently polled in a survey released this week by Quinnipiac University. Christie, a Republican, leads his Democratic rival, state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), 62 percent to 25 percent in the state's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to the poll. The governor's overall approval rating also remains high. Christie's 74 percent approval rating and 69 percent favorable rating tie his personal record highs from January, the Huffington Post reports, both numbers buoyed by public perception of the way he handled Hurricane Sandy's impact and its aftermath. Grants to Freehold Township aimed at alleviating cleanup costs incurred after Superstorm Sandy will total more than $4 million, federal officials announced Tuesday. According to a press release from Governor Chris Christie, FEMA has approved over $5 million in reimbursements to the New Jersey towns of Brick and Freehold Township for costs related to work performed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. In Freehold Township the total cost of the emergency protective measures is $1.37 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $1.03 million. Gov. Chris Christie will continue his "town hall" meetings, holding a public event Thursday in the hurricane-damaged borough of Belmar. Throughout his administratrion the governor has held many of these town hall meetings, holding events to speak with the public and interact with local citizens as Christie promotes "the Jersey Comeback." These days the dialogue has turned to coming back from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, which destroyed large areas of the state, including Thursday's town hall host town, Belmar. Chris Christie said Friday that the people of Connecticut are struggling with an "unthinkable tragedy" after the mass shooting that left at least 25 people dead at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.
