The Englishtown Borough Council introduced and adopted a resolution last week naming Jan. 14 “Christopher Matlosz Remembrance Day” in honor of Christopher Matlosz, a former Englishtown Borough Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in Lakewood two years ago. Matlosz was a full time police officer for Englishtown between 2004 and 2006, when he left Englishtown to join the Lakewood Police Department. Matlosz was killed on January 14, 2011 by Jahmell Crockam during a routine traffic stop. Nearly two years after Justin Williams was killed and his body left on a Lakewood street, three men have been indicted in connection with his murder, including the man convicted for the killing of Lakewood police officer Christopher Matlosz. Jahmell W. Crockham, 21, who was sentenced in February to life in prison after he was convicted of murdering Matlosz, was indicted Thursday by an Ocean County grand jury on one count of first-degree murder, and second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, in the shooting death of Williams. Jury selection in the murder trial will begin early next year
The trial of the man accused of killing a Lakewood police officer in January will begin early next year, according to Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Mohel said that jury selection in the trial of Jahmell Crockam, the 19-year-old Lakewood man accused of killing Lakewood police officer Christopher Matlosz, 27, of Manchester, will begin the week of January 16, 2012.
