Apply Now For Freehold Idol Competition

Applications for annual singing competition being accepted now

Do you have the pipes to be the next Freehold Idol? The Downtown Freehold organization is accepting applications for the 2013 Freehold Idol auditions, to begin June 5. Singers 10 years old and up can show off their talent in the annual singing contest. Each week, singers will be judged and the best performers move to a final round. The top three vocalists receive prizes. The performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in front of the Hall of Records. Performances will continue each week through Wednesday, Aug. 7. The finales will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Downtown Freehold Seeking 2013 Freehold Idol Contestants

Calling all singers! Freehold Idol is now taking applications for their 2013 season. The local singing competition based off of the popular Fox television show is getting ready to come back to Freehold. Downtown Freehold is accepting applications for singers who think they have what it takes to become the next Freehold Idol. Singers must be 10-years-old or older. Auditions are scheduled between June 5 and Aug 7 at 7: 30 p.m. in front of the Hall of Records. The finales for the 2013 Freehold Idol will be on Aug. 21 for singers between the ages 10 and 15 and on Aug. 14 for singers in the 16 through 22 age group and 23-plus age group. Flavor of Freehold Kicks Off Irish Week

Irish Week in Freehold Borough began Tuesday night with the first evening of Flavor of Freehold.

The sky in Freehold Borough cleared up Tuesday evening to allow Freehold diners an opportunity to sample some of the best food Freehold has to offer. For $10, diners got to sample food from 13 local restaurants including Café 360, American Hotel Market Grille, Metropolitan Café, A Little Bit of Cuba Dos, San Marzano, The Court Jester, Sweet Lew’s Café, Solo Trattoria, Texas Mexican Restaurant, Giovanna’s Ristorante, L’Acqua and two of Downtown Freehold’s newest restaurants; Ginger and Sapori. After diners sampled dishes at each restaurant they were invited to stop into Freehold Jewelers and Especially for you Florist & Gift Shop. Downtown Freehold Announces St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Irish Week in Freehold Borough will begin Tuesday, March 12 and will continue through St. Patrick's Day.

In a few weeks, Freehold will be seeing green, with the kick off of Irish Week. Starting on March 12, Downtown Freehold will begin its St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with Irish Week featuring local food, drink and music. From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday March 12 and Wednesday March 13, Downtown Freehold will host the Flavor of Freehold. Ticket holders will be able to experience some of Freehold’s most loved restaurants and shops.  A complete list of participating businesses can be seen here. I'm another Lisa. I do understand where Curious George is coming from. Excessive, reckless and irresponsible drinking can occur in folks of any age, really. Certainly, people who do have problems limiting alcohol intake can take advantage of these types of events. Freehold Chef Receives National Recognition

Matthew Higgins of La Cipollina Ristoante has been named as one of the Top 25 chefs in America Under the Age of 25.

A hometown chef has earned nation wide recognition due to his abilities to create delicious dishes in the kitchen of La Cipollina.  Matthew Higgins, 24, is the Chef De Cuisine at La Cipollina in Downtown Freehold. Despite his young age, Higgins has been named one of the Top 25 Chefs Under the Age of 25 by Best Chefs America, a chef’s guide to other chefs across the country. In order to earn the title, Higgins had to be nominated by chefs who have experienced his craft. Higgins had his first taste of the restaurant industry at a young age. When he was only eight-years-old he began serving fudge to La Cipollina  diners. Jolly Trolley is Coming to Town

Jolly Trolley rides will begin on Friday, Dec. 14 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 16

The Freehold tradition of the Jolly Trolley will continue this year with the help of Ocean First Bank and Freehold Regional High School students.  From Friday evening, until Sunday night, the Jolly Trolley will be rolling out of Sun Bank on Main Street and will give riders an historic and seasonal look back at Freehold through the years. Students from Howell High School’s Fine and Performing Arts Academy (FPAC) will be highlighting many historical stops throughout Freehold aboard the trolley, which will be festively decorated with bows, garlands, and wreaths, for the occasion. Downtown Freehold Kicks Off Holiday Season with Tree Lighting

The Christmas tree in front of the Hall of Records has been lit.

While the weather on Tuesday did not feel very Christmas like, Freehold Borough got into the holiday spirit with the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Hall of Records. Residents gathered outside the Hall of Records along with the Rock N Roll Chorus, radio personalities from the Breeze-FM and local elected officials to witness the town Christmas tree light up. The tree, decorated by Freehold Girl Scout Troop 2780 had a hurricane relief theme this year along with their traditional “green” ornaments. “There are a total of 300 ornaments on the tree this year,” said a Girl Scout Troop 2780 spokesperson. “The ornaments are all made from recycled materials and have a Hurricane Sandy theme to them. New Freehold Idols Named

A Freehold Idol was named Wednesday night for the 16 to 22 age group and the 23 and older age group.

Music lovers braved the stormy weather Wednesday night and made their way to the American Hotel to find out who would be named the 2012 Freehold Idol. Over a 10 week span, many contestants showed three judges what they were made of with their own renditions of classic and popular songs, just like the hit Fox television show, American Idol. Wednesday was the finale for two age groups; the 16 to 22-year-old group which had 11 participants and the 23 and older group, which had seven singers going for the title of 2012 Freehold Idol.  In the end there could only be one Freehold Idol for each age group. The title for the 16 to 22 age group went to Shannon Rakow, 20, of Jackson. She performed “Gimme Gimme” from the Broadway play Thoroughly …

First Ever Freehold’s Got Talent Rocks Main Street

Main Street came alive Tuesday night as the Freehold Borough Arts Council (FBAC) joined forces with Downtown Freehold to bring the first ever Freehold’s Got Talent competition to the Borough. Modeled after the popular NBC television show America’s Got Talent, this hometown version showcased some of Freehold’s most gifted performers in a one night competition.
