The district is collaborating with local law enforcement officials.
The Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) completed their safety and security plan in November, several weeks prior to the Newtown, Conn. shooting. In the aftermath of the tragedy, however, the district is working in conjunction with local law enforcement officials to ensure the protection of all students. “It was very important to us when we came together as an administrative team to take a look at what we were doing as it related to our security, to not focus on a lot of the good work that has already been underway to improve our security in our school district, and not to jump to any knee-jerk reactions without fully vetting those reactions,” FRHSD Superintendent Charles Sampson said at the Board of Education meeting last week…

Marlboro representative Michael Messinger's private message about Gloria Close became public and a complaint is now in front of the School Ethics Commission.
A Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) Board of Education member's Facebook messages have become the subject of an ethics complaint to the New Jersey Commissioner of Education. Michael Messinger, who represents Marlboro on the school board, referred to Manalapan resident Gloria Close as "an unhinged lunatic" in private Facebook messages. Close was campaigning for the Manalapan representative position for 2013 against incumbent Jennifer Sutera at the time the messages were sent. Sutera ultimately won reelection, but the alleged mudslinging was not known to Close until after the election was over. In the first private Facebook message dated Oct. 27, Messinger wrote to a friend and member of the Marlboro K-8 Board of Education the …

The state's new accountability system is changing HSPA requirements for the future.
Freehold Regional High School District Chief Academic Officer Dr. Nicole Hazel presented the annual Testing and Assessment Report at last week’s Board of Education meeting. The report overviewed the 2012 High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) scores and provided an outline of New Jersey’s new accountability system. The HSPA is a 3-day test in Mathematics and Language Arts; eleventh graders take the test for the first time in March. If the students are not pleased with their scores they have the opportunity to take the test again in October and March of their senior year. Only one suggestion was made to the district in the 2012 Financial Report going forward.
The Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education approved the 2012’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report at their meeting Monday. No improprieties were found against the district, but one suggestion was made. Robert Swisher, an auditor from Suplee, Clooney & Company, recommended that a detailed analysis of the balance in the payroll agency account be reconciled to the amount of deposit on a monthly basis. The payroll agency account keeps track of all salary deductions, such as garnishments and pensions. Swisher said that a detailed analysis of this account was not provided monthly, and it should be. Freehold Regional is one of the few school districts within the state of New Jersey that is capable of preparing the annual …

Questions answered by students, staff and parents
With thousands of students covering such a wide area, the Freehold Regional High School District conducted a survey of its community this past summer to get a sense of how they are perceived by not only students and parents but district employees and local residents as well. At Monday's meeting of the district's board of education, the results of that survey generally received as a positive reaction. A total of 1851 surveys were completed with the bulk of the participants being students and employees in the district. The survey looked at a variety of topics including problems facing the district, areas for possible improvement and places the district might be able to make cost saving cuts. Overall, the best marks for the district came …
