February is National Canned Food Month and The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties need donations of canned food year round to meet the needs of many hungry children and adults in the area. The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties offers several creative ideas for food collection, such as wedding gift wishes and corporate matches from employers. Shannon Traeger is a spokesperson with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity. Freehold Residents Working, but Struggling to Afford Basics

A new report from United Way calculates the number of struggling working families across the state.

According to a new report, 21 percent of Freehold Township residents and 43 percent of Freehold Borough residents struggle to afford basic necessities, despite having working adults in the home. The United Way reports New Jersey sees one in three households in the same situation, hard-pressed to pay for "housing, child care, food, health care, and transportation." United Way recently released a report, five years in the making, to document the number, location and experiences of New Jersey families who Legislative working, yet "who live each day one crisis away from falling into poverty."
