Freehold Regional HS District Closed Monday and Tuesday

An announcement confirming the ongoing schedule will be made on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

A message from the Freehold Regional High School District:   Due to the significant impact of Hurricane Sandy and to ensure the safety of our students and staff, the Freehold Regional High School District will be closed on Monday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 6. We will be honoring the request of the Commissioner of Education and hopefully will be able to conduct regular school days on Wednesday, November 7, Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9. An announcement confirming this schedule will be made on Tuesday, November 6. On Tuesday, November 6 our building administrators will return to work to assure that all aspects of our buildings are prepared to host our students. UPDATE: Marlboro Family With Disabled Daughter Transported by Marlboro PD

The Marlboro PD will transport the family to Pennsylvania.

UPDATE: Around 12:45 p.m., Mayor Jon Hornik authorized the Marlboro PD to bring a van to transport the Cano family out of town, to a relative's home.   A Marlboro family is in desperate need of a way to get out of town.  The Cano family has a disabled daughter, who recently got out of the hospital after a bout with pneumonia. The family had to abandon their wheelchair accessible van in Perth Amboy after a failed attempt to find gas to fill it up. Right now, the family has no power and an electric stove. Their generator is being used solely to power their daughter's nebulizer. "They just can't stay there, it is too cold, she is going to get pneumonia again," said Cheri Golub, a family friend. FRHSD Closed Wednesday and Thursday

The district will evaluate later in the week whether school should open on Friday.

All Freehold Regional High School District schools and offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, according to district officials. A message from the FRHSD website: We hope that everyone has made it safely through Hurricane Sandy. Due to lasting impacts of that storm, all district schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1. All activities are canceled. We will continue to utilize automated phone calls and our web site to communicate updates. Please stay tuned throughout the week. Volunteer to Help Post-Sandy Clean-Up Efforts

Gov. Chris Christie has activated the New Jersey volunteer emergency response hotline (1-800-JERSEY-7).

If you'd like to lend a hand in the post-Sandy clean-up, the state of New Jersey volunteer emergency response hotline has been activated. "This hotline was established earlier this year to enhance the state's emergency responsiveness by harnessing New Jerseyans' strong spirit of service," according to a press release from the office of Governor Chris Christie. The number to call is 1-800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397); backup hotline numbers are: 609-775-5236 or 908-303-0471. Vote By Mail Applications Still Due Oct. 30 in Monmouth County

Election offices remain open on Monday, despite Hurricane Sandy.

While most county offices are closed due to Hurricane Sandy, the Monmouth County election offices remain open to process vote-by-mail applications. Applications to vote by mail are still due Tuesday, Oct. 30 to the Monmouth County Clerk's office. Requests may not be emailed or faxed, but must be delivered or mailed to: M. JCP&L Warns Power Could Be Out For 10 Days

Utility company says its hiring extra contractors, urges residents to be prepared

Residents should be prepared for power outages of up to 10 days from the anticipated impact of Hurricane Sandy, according to a release from the parent company of JCP&L. FirstEnergy Corp, which owns the local utility company along with several others on the East Coast, said in a release that the oncoming storm could wreak havoc with the electrical system and residents should be prepared to be without power for more than a week. The company is securing outside utility crews, electrical contractor and tree trimmers to assist a beefed up response crew and support workers to help restore power as soon as possible throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, according to the release. “Depending on the severity of the storm's impact on the …
