Location changes for upcoming Freehold Borough Board of Education meetings.
The Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) will meet in a different location for the rest of the school year. According to a message from Freehold Borough Schools, the meetings will now take place in the Park Avenue gymnasium instead of the cafeteria. The following message comes from borough schools. In accordance with Chapter 231, PL 1975 (Sunshine Law) which governs proper notification of public board meetings, the Freehold Borough Board of Education hereby gives notice of the following change to its previously published meeting schedule for the 2012-2013 school year. The April, May and June 2013 BOE meetings will be held in the gymnasium of the Park Avenue Complex. The meetings will still begin at 7 p.m.

$32,000 was added to the budget before it was adopted for new computers and iPads for specific staff. Tax levy increase from last year is three-and-a-half cents from last year.
The Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) adopted their 2013-2014 school year budget on Monday night, but not before a last minute added expense. Approximately $32,000 was added to the budget following a motion to give selected staff members new computers and iPads. “It is an additional $8 to $11 per household, which works out to be three cents a day for the year [to get the new computers and iPads],” explained BOE member Susan Grietz. “I think it would be penny foolish not to because I also sit in front of a computer all day for work and I agree that when they crash it is a terrible waste of time and money. Tentative budget proposes a net tax levy increase of 3.67-percent, which allows Borough Schools to hire a fourth grade teacher and purchase computers.
After numerous meetings and number crunching, the Freehold Borough BOE has adopted their tentative budget for the 2013-2014 school year. A presentation given by Freehold Borough Interim Business Administrator Jim Strimple filled in the gaps previously left from unknown state aid figures. On Friday, March 1, state aid numbers were provided to school districts and Freehold Borough learned that their state aid would increase this year. The Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) plans to adopt their tentative 2013-2014 school year budget on Monday, March 4. Last week, New Jersey state funding numbers were released, giving school districts a more accurate picture of what next year's budget will look like. From those numbers, Freehold Borough schools learned that they would be receiving more aid than last year. Freehold Borough residents and organizations gathered in the Park Avenue Elementary Complex cafeteria Monday night, to see how the Board of Education (BOE) was going to proceed with the 2013-2014 school budget. Before state-aid figures, Freehold Borough Schools are $565,765 over the cap. The board is asking for public to weigh in at the next meeting about whether they would rather have larger classrooms or see an increase in taxes.
The Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) will have to decide between increasing classroom size or increasing taxes after hearing a presentation on the preliminary 2013-2014 school year budget. At Monday night’s BOE meeting, Jim Strimple, interim business administrator for the school district, walked the board through the projected appropriations and revenues for the 2013-2014 school year. The projected numbers did not include state aid numbers. The Freehold Borough Education Foundation presented grants to 17 Freehold Borough teachers and to the BOE.
Representatives from the Freehold Borough Education Foundation made an appearance at the Monday night Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) meeting to recognize teachers who were awarded grants. This year, the foundation awarded a total of $7,325 to 17 borough teachers. With that money, ten new educational programs will be implemented into the classroom and used to better educate students. Each teacher and program was recognized at Monday’s meeting by the foundation. The check for $7,325 was presented to Freehold Borough Superintendent Elizabeth O’Connell who will provide each grant recipient with the funds to bring in the new programs. While 2013 may have just begun, local organizations have already planned out their year with meeting dates. Below is a list of dates that the Freehold Township Committee, Freehold Borough Council, and both the Freehold Borough and Freehold Township Board of Education will meet this year. These meeting dates were announced and approved at each organization's annual reorganization meeting. Freehold Borough and Freehold Township BOE members nominated and elected a President and Vice President at their reorganization meetings.
A Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) member has stepped up to be the Vice President of the BOE. At the Freehold Borough BOE and Freehold Township BOE reorganization meetings, board members nominated and elected members to serve as President and Vice President. In Freehold Borough, Annette Jordan was re-elected to the position of President, while Dr. Michael Lichardi took the position of Vice President for the first time. In 2012, Ron Reich served as the board Vice President, but decided to leave his three-year seat prior to the 2012 elections. In Freehold Township, Mindy Wille and Kay Poklemba-Holtz will continue their positions from last year. Wille will serve as President and Holtz Vice President in 2013.

Four BOE members swore in at the Freehold Borough Board of Education Reorganization meeting on Thursday.
The open seat on the Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) was officially filled Thursday night. Going into the 2012 elections, three, three-year seats were open on the board as well as one, one-year seat. In 2012, board vice president Ron Reich made the decision to leave his three-year seat on the board. After the election, Susan Greitz, then serving a one-year term, made the move to a three-year seat on the board. Greitz and incumbents Dr. Michael Lichardi and Maureen MacCutcheon were all sworn into another three-year term on the board. Michele Tennant filled the open one-year seat on the board. Tennant beat out opponent Paul Ceppi during the election. She was sworn in on Thursday, and immediately took her new seat on the BOE.
