According to the resolution, the bus stop zone will be moved from the southerly curb line of Jackson Street to the northerly curb line of Jackson Street.
A Jackson Street bus stop zone has been changed to the other side of the street in order to ensure the safety of Freehold Borough residents. At the Monday, April 1 Freehold Borough Council meeting, the council unanimously agreed to pass a resolution that would move the Jackson Street bus stop across the street, closer to Zlotkin circle. “A couple of months ago a few people came up and complained about a bus stop on the corner of Main and Jackson Street, and they were right. DeLisa Demolition will continue to be responsible for refuse and recycling collection services in Freehold Borough over the next year. During the Monday, April 1 Freehold Borough Council meeting, the council unanimously agreed to pass a resolution that would continue the contract with DeLisa at the 2011 rate. “In 2009 we had a three-year agreement with DeLisa for refuse and recycling. During the Monday night Freehold Borough Council meeting, Sgt. Andrew Demuth was sworn in as a new Detective Sgt. and Ptl. Christopher Otlowski took the oath of office to become a Sgt.
Two of Freehold Borough’s finest were sworn in to new roles within the department. Sgt. Andrew Demuth was sworn in as a new Detective Sgt. for the Freehold Borough Police Department during the Monday night Freehold Borough Council meeting. Demuth has been apart of the department for 23 years, 15 of those years were spent as a Sgt. “Andy is well known in the law enforcement community and is well respected,” said Freehold Borough Council President Kevin Kane. “This is a great move.” Ptl. Two seats are open on the Freehold Borough Council and one seat is open on the Freehold Township Committee.
Candidates in Freehold Borough and Freehold Township filed for the June 4 primary. Freehold residents interested in running for the open seats on their governing body had until yesterday to file their petition. This November, there will be two open seats on the Freehold Borough Council and one open seat on the Freehold Township Committee. In Freehold Borough, Council President Kevin Kane and Councilman Jaye Sims will be running as incumbents for the Democratic Party. Residents Ronald DeMarco and Elizabeth Slade have also filed to run for the two open council seats; both DeMarco and Slade will be representing the Republican Party. Due to the recent cold weather, the borough has extended its brush pick up schedule in order to give residents more time to do their outside spring cleaning.
Freehold Borough residents can wait to tackle their yard work thanks to an extension to the brush pick up schedule. At the Monday, March 18 Freehold Borough council meeting, Councilman Michael DiBenedetto explained to residents that due to the recent cold weather, brush pick up will begin on April 15. “In light of the current cold weather we are extending the brush pick up schedule to April 15. This is to allow our residents to get some of their spring clean up work done," said DiBenedetto. "The cold weather has forced residents to put off their outside work and we want to provide ample time for residential clean up." Freehold Borough’s beautiful landscape took a major hit in 2012 due to Mother Nature’s wrath. While trees in the borough have become a concern, Councilman Ron Griffiths provided an update at the Monday, March 18 council meeting to tell residents where the Shade Tree Commission is with the process of removing trees. “Following the recent storms a tree expert was retained by the borough to identify which trees needed to be removed or trimmed. According to Freehold Borough Business Administrator Joseph Bellina, the public hearing for the 2013 annual budget has been scheduled for May 6; the first regular scheduled council meeting of May. New ordinance follows up from 2011 Master Plan Periodic Reexamination Report and deals with land use procedures and zoning.
The Freehold Borough Council has adopted an ordinance that will enhance the overall zoning of the town. At the Monday, March 4 council meeting, a new ordinance that amends Land Use and Zoning procedures was unanimously adopted after careful revisions from the Mayor and Council. According to the ordinance, the new changes are consistent with the borough’s Zone Plan and Master Plan. An updated ordinance passed by the Freehold Borough Council tightens up rules and regulations in order to limit illegal “fencing” of stolen property.
An updated Freehold Borough ordinance has been implemented in order to help prevent the selling of stolen property. At the March 4 Freehold Borough Council meeting, the council unanimously agreed to amend an existing ordinance dealing with jewelry and precious metals. The revised ordinance has more guidelines for buyers and sellers at local secondhand dealers. “This ordinance is for second handlers, also known as pawnshops. It basically tightens up both on the sellers and the buys and on our end. Deadline for scholarship is Friday, March 8.
The New Jersey League of Municipalities has a scholarship opportunity for high school juniors and seniors in Freehold. The Freehold Borough Council has teamed up with the Luis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition to provide three $1,000 scholarships to participants from around the state. The theme of the contest is “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best”. In order to apply for the scholarship, Freehold students are asked to fill out an application and complete a 500-word essay.
