Tickets are on sale for the annual Community Excellence Gala.
The Freehold Police Department is joining forces with the Marlboro Police Department to ride down to Washington D.C. for the annual Police Unity Tour. The Police Unity Tour is a four-day bike ride that starts in New Jersey and ends in Washington DC at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, which honors officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Over the years, the tour has raised over $15 million dollars, some of which supports families of fallen officers. This year, the two departments are working to raise funds together at a community gala to be held at The American Hotel on April 12. During the Monday night Freehold Borough Council meeting, Sgt. Andrew Demuth was sworn in as a new Detective Sgt. and Ptl. Christopher Otlowski took the oath of office to become a Sgt.
Two of Freehold Borough’s finest were sworn in to new roles within the department. Sgt. Andrew Demuth was sworn in as a new Detective Sgt. for the Freehold Borough Police Department during the Monday night Freehold Borough Council meeting. Demuth has been apart of the department for 23 years, 15 of those years were spent as a Sgt. “Andy is well known in the law enforcement community and is well respected,” said Freehold Borough Council President Kevin Kane. “This is a great move.” Ptl. A Freehold woman allegedly used a stolen credit card at Court Jester.
Freehold Borough Police arrested a woman after she allegedly used a stolen credit card at a local restaurant. Donishia Nesby, 28, of Jackson Street, is accused of using a stolen MasterCard at approximately 4:31 p.m. at Court Jester on Thursday, Jan. 3. According to Nesby’s complaint warrant, she knowly charged $32 to the stolen credit card. Nesby has been remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) on $5,000 bail.

After meeting with the Safety Committee, the Freehold Borough Schools Superintendent spoke of safety changes coming to Freehold Borough schools.

New safety measures are coming to Freehold Borough schools in order to better protect students. At the Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) reorganization meeting, Superintendent Elizabeth O’Connell explained to the board and meeting attendees what changes would be coming to schools in order to ensure school safety. According to O’Connell, the school’s Safety Committee normally meets quarterly. Six Freehold Borough Police Officers were recognized after saving three people from a fire and stopping someone from ripping off a local business with counterfeit money.
Six of Freehold Borough’s finest were recognized for their heroic actions in front of a packed Freehold Borough boardroom Monday night. The officers were recognized in two separate groups. First, five officers were called up to receive a letter of accommodation after they saved the lives of three Piscataway residents. The sixth officer also received a letter of accommodation for his actions of perusing a man who used counterfeit money at a local shop. In November, Officer Jaye Slatas, Shaun Hobbs, Nick Iozzi, Mark Garahan, and Det. John Reiff, were traveling back to Freehold from training in Somerset when they noticed smoke coming from a home in Piscataway. Freehold Borough Police allegedly found cocaine in his possession during the investigation.
Freehold Borough Police arrested a man who tried to avoid police investigation after getting in a car accident. Luis Rosales-Zarate, 24, of First St., was arrested on June 17. According to the complaint warrant, Zarate was in a car accident and then fled the scene on foot before police arrived at the scene for investigation. When the police found him, Zarate gave a fake name and address. During the investigation, police found a folded five-dollar bill with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. Zarate is charged with hindering his own apprehension, obstructing the administration of the law, and possession of cocaine. His bail is set at $7,500. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 10 at 1:00 p.m.
The Englishtown man also gave police false information upon arrest.
Freehold Borough Police arrested an Englishtown man for breaking into a borough home on June 15. Lawrence Preston, 26, of Englishtown, allegedly broke into a home on West Main St. by damaging the screen door and the lock. When the police asked for his information, he gave them a false name and birthday. According to the complaint warrant, Preston is charged with burglary, hindering and criminal mischief. He had outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest. He was wanted in Greenville, North Carolina. Preston is scheduled to appear in court on June 19 at 1:00 p.m. His bail is set at $150,000.

A Monmouth County grand jury indicted a Freehold man on 12 drug crimes. Jacob C. Cole, 20, of Casilda St., allegedly sold marijuana on three separate occasions to an undercover detective. Freehold Borough police found Cole allegedly selling marijuana near St. Rose of Lima Elementary School on Nov. 4 and Nov. 9. He also allegedly sold marijuana to a undercover detective on Nov. 21 near Orchard Hills Park. Cole is indicted on 12 drug crimes: three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute; two counts of possession within 1,000 feet of a school with intent to distribute; three counts of distribution; two counts of distribution within 1,000 feet of school property; one count of possession with intent to…

A Monmouth County jury found a Freehold Borough police officer guilty of shoplifting from the Home Depot in Freehold Township on Thursday, according to a press release issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. The Honorable Anthony J. Mellaci, Jr. presided over the trial. Upon the jury’s verdict, he ruled that Darnell Esdaile, 46, must immediately forfeit his position as a police officer with the Freehold Borough Police Department. Esdaile was arrested at the Home Depot on November 11. He was off duty at the time of the incident. He was stopped by Home Depot Loss Prevention officers when he tried to leave the store with just under $500 worth of laminate flooring materials without paying. Freehold Borough Police arrested an Englishtown resident for allegedly shoplifting from CVS Pharmacy and robbing an individual on two separate occasions.
Freehold Borough Police arrested Robert E. Brown, 47, of Englishtown, this week for allegedly shoplifting from CVS Pharmacy on Tuesday, June 5 and reportedly committing a robbery against an individual within Freehold Borough on Saturday, June 2. Brown, a resident of Station Street, concealed merchandise on his person at CVS Pharmacy on Tuesday in order to avoid paying the merchant, according to an arrest warrant issued by the Freehold Borough Police Department. According to the arrest warrent, Brown allegedly robbed a man and placed him in fear of immediate bodily injury and taking money from him on Saturday.
