Freehold Borough Youth Police Academy Inspires Kids to Never Give Up

The two-week summer program is free and applications are due on June 8.

Around 30 kids will have to opportunity to experience a 2-week police academy boot camp through the Freehold Borough Police Department this summer. The Freehold Borough Youth Police Academy runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. every weekday from July 23 through Aug. 3. The program is free and open to local students age 12 to 16-years-old. “It is just like the real police academy,” explained Steppat. “This is not your average summer camp. The kids will learn how to march and if the don’t do it right, they will have to do push-ups. Drill sergeants will yell in their face.” The program is open to all kids who live in the borough, not just those with aspirations to become a cop. Man Allegedly Runs from FBPD During Narcotics Investigation

Police allegedly found 31 bricks of heroin in his possession.

Freehold Borough Police arrested a Neptune man after he tried to dodge them during a narcotics investigation. Dennis Miller, 36, of Neptune, was arrested on May 30 for allegedly running into a house when the police ordered him to stop. The police were performing a narcotics investigation when they allegedly found 31 “bricks” of suspected heroin. Detective Chris Otlowski led the investigation. Miller is charged with a disorderly persons offense, possession of 31 bricks of heroin, and two counts of having over ½ ounce or more of heroin with intent to distribute. Miller’s bail is set at $301,000 to be posted in full. He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 12 at 1:00 p.m.

Freehold Man Indicted on Attempted Burglary of Downtown Restaurant

He was allegedly found trying to break into the refrigerator behind the Metropolitan Cafe.

A Monmouth County grand jury indicted Darren Whiting, 44, of Freehold on one count of attempted burglary. According to the complaint warrant filed on March 20, Whiting allegedly tried to pry off the lock of the rear refrigerator and storage facility at the Metropolitan Café. Police documents say Whiting was found with burglar tools including a backpack filled with 3 types of wrenches and wire cutters. Whiting was allegedly using these tools to try to break-in when he was found by Borough Patrolman Nicholas Iozzi.

Freehold Man Charged with Alleged Sexual Assault of 14-Year-Old Girl

Oscar Lopez, 25, of Freehold, is facing three charges.

Freehold Borough Police arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. According to the complaint warrant, Oscar Lopez, 25, of Freehold, is facing three charges. Lopez was charged with second-degree sexual assault for allegedly penetrating the victim. He is also charged with an act of criminal contact against a 14-year-old victim and endangering the welfare of a child. Lopez’s bail is set at $450,000.

Man Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting a Minor

Miguel Garcia III, 29, of Plainsborough, allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old victim.

Freehold Borough Police arrested a man for sexually allegedly assaulting a minor. Miguel Garcia III,  29, of Plainsborough, allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old victim. According to the complaint warrant, this incident occurred while Garcia was in a supervisory role of the child. Garcia is facing two charges. The first is aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree crime, and the second is endangering the welfare of a child, a second-degree crime. Penalties for a conviction of aggravated sexual assault are up to 20 years in prison and a lifetime registration on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry, under Megan’s Law. Garcia’s bail is set at $300,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 1 at 1:00 p.m.

Update: Freehold Man Charged with Selling Drugs Near Schools

More details released by the Freehold Borough Police department about the investigation and arrest.

Freehold Borough police completed a big drug bust after an investigation of a resident who was allegedly selling marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school. Police arrested Jamar Ousley, 28, after a narcotics detail led by Detective Chris Otlowski, The arrest resulted in the seizure of 18 ½ pounds of suspected marijuana, numerous items of drug paraphernalia, as well as approximately $6,300 from illegal narcotics sales. The investigation came after the police department received numerous complaints from the community. According to a press release from Chief Roberts, neighbors were reporting suspicious traffic going to and from 719 Zlotkin Circle in the Briarwood West complex. Freehold Police Looking For Purse Thief

Surveillance footage shows man leaving downtown law office with stolen pink bag.

Freehold Borough Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole a pink pocket book from a law office on Main St. Monday morning. According to Patrolman Sean Healey, police responded to 31 Main St. after the victim called 911 to report the incident around 10 a.m. “She said she was outside the building and when she came back to her cubicle on the second floor, she noticed the desk drawer was open where the purse belonged,” explained Healey. According to Healey, the victim started screaming about her missing purse. “One of her co-workers said they saw a man with a pink bag leaving the building so that is how they knew it had been stolen,” he explained. UPDATE: March Madness in the Borough

The second annual March Madness Tournament will take place on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.

Forget Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, and Ohio State. Another March Madness Tournament is taking place right here in the Borough with four local organizations battling it out for bragging rights and to fundraise for a local cause. Following last year’s success, the second annual March Madness Tournament will take place at the Freehold High School on Friday, March 30 and finish up on Saturday, March 31. The tournament is also a way for last year’s teams to seek redemption.  “The same four teams that competed last year will be playing again this year,” explained Councilman Kevin Kane. “Last year the Freehold Borough YMCA won the tournament.” The four teams competing this weekend include the Borough Hall Team (dressed in purple) the Y.M.C.A. …

Freehold Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting 2 Children

Miguel Angel Minano Rodriguez is accused of engaging in sexual contact with the children in Freehold Borough and Englishtown on multiple occasions.

A Freehold Borough man was indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury Wednesday on charges he sexually assaulted two minors. Miguel Angel Minano Rodriguez, 30, of Institute Street, is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with an 8-year-old and with a second child on while the victim was under the age of 13, according to the indictment. Rodriguez was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 14 charges stemming from the alleged assault of the 8-year-old. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crime Unit conducted an investigation into instances of alleged sexual contact with the child in Freehold Borough between Aug. 1, 2001 and Sept. 15, 2001, according to the indictment. Freehold Man Charged with Eluding Officers and Resisting Arrest

Travis Furlong failed to comply with directions while being pulled over and arrested for a D.W.I.

Freehold Borough Police arrested a 22-year-old man Saturday after he refused to pull over his black Chevy Malibu and then resisted arrest. Travis Furlong of Freehold allegedly refused to pull over after being summoned by two separate officers using lights and verbal commands and almost hit an officer when trying to get away. Once pulled over, Furlong allegedly refused to get out of his car, would not give his name and personal information and then resisted arrest by forcefully holding his hands under his body. Police documents say Furlong was charged with eluding officers, obstructing the administration of the law and resisting arrest with force.
