Stock Market Picking Game allowed over 40 area kids to learn about the financial field in a six week program.
For the last six weeks, area children have been learning valuable stock market lessons all by playing a game. The Freehold Sunrise Optimist Club, a community service organization dedicated to "bringing out the best in kids", teamed up with the Freehold Borough YMCA to show students between fifth and eighth grade how to navigate the stock market. “We are always looking for ways to get kids and members involved in a hands-on activity,” said Freehold Sunrise Optimist President Brian Furie. “Since a fair amount of club members have experience in accounting and in the financial field we thought an educational stock market activity would be beneficial for all involved.” Every Thursday for the last six weeks, 41 children came to the Borough YMCA…

The Freehold Borough Arts Council teamed up with the YMCA Arts Club for a creative bike trail sign.
Members of the Freehold Borough Arts Council (FBAC) came to the Freehold Borough YMCA on Tuesday, to begin brainstorming and designing bike signs for the borough. In March, the Freehold Borough Council adopted a “Complete Streets” policy, which requires the borough to make necessary accommodations for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users. While the borough will received funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to implement these accommodations, the FBAC came onboard to bring the arts and community into the project. The Co-Ed team is currently looking to fill its roster with interested participants.
The Freehold Borough YMCA is seeking to engage area children with a new team. The Borough YMCA Pep Squad is currently looking to fill its roster of 15 with interested participants. Combining chants, step, and dance, the Pep Squad is open to boys and girls that are six-years-old or older in the Borough community. According to Mary Stallworth, the Pep Squad’s advisor, this team is a new way to get students involved in the Colonial Basketball League without picking up a basketball ball. “The Pep Squad is a new fresh idea that was brought to the table. If the back-to-school-blues have already started taking affect in your household, take a trip down memory lane and relive summer with the Freehold Borough YMCA summer camp. From the Statue of Liberty to making ice cream at Long Street Farms, campers at the Boro YMCA did it all in summer 2012. At the Tuesday night Borough Council meeting Mel O’Neal, Outreach Director at the Boro YMCA, explained to the Mayor and Council how over 100 campers enjoyed a variety of activities this summer with a slideshow. “The Y summer program is an eight-week program. We served 130 campers, employed 24 counselors, guided five leaders-in-training, and had three volunteers. We also like to mention that 20 of our 24 counselors are residents of Freehold Borough,” …

The second annual March Madness Tournament will take place on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.
Forget Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, and Ohio State. Another March Madness Tournament is taking place right here in the Borough with four local organizations battling it out for bragging rights and to fundraise for a local cause. Following last year’s success, the second annual March Madness Tournament will take place at the Freehold High School on Friday, March 30 and finish up on Saturday, March 31. The tournament is also a way for last year’s teams to seek redemption. “The same four teams that competed last year will be playing again this year,” explained Councilman Kevin Kane. “Last year the Freehold Borough YMCA won the tournament.” The four teams competing this weekend include the Borough Hall Team (dressed in purple) the Y.M.C.A. …
