Spahn Celebrates 1,000 Points as FHS Girls Basketball Advances in Tournament

Freehold High School defeated Red Bank Regional in the first round of the NJSIAA tournament with a final score of 50-30.

Colonials girls basketball team took home a win in the first round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) tournament. Freehold High School (FHS) defeated Red Bank Regional (RBR) 50-30 on Tuesday in a game that featured senior Camerin Spahn's 1,000th point. The Colonials and Buccaneers both came out strong keeping the first half close with neither team leading more than a couple points. At the half, the Colonials led the Buccaneers by two points, with a score of 21 to 19. After the half, the Colonials began moving the ball even faster, bringing their score to 30 and giving up only three points, to bring the Buccaneers to 26 after the third. “This is probably the most unselfish team I have ever had," said FHS …

FHS Presents 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'

The Drama Club will perform their spring production Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2.

Freehold High School (FHS) is going Greek this weekend with the production of their Spring Musical. “A Funny Things Happened on the Way to the Forum” will premiere on Friday, March 1 and will continue through Saturday night. KasiAnn Sweeney, FHS English and Drama teacher as well as the play’s Director, decided to introduce the 31 cast members and 25 pit members to the Greek comedy because of her love for the play. “I fell in love with this play in 1996,” explained Sweeney. “I love the music and the comedy aspect so I have always had this play on the back burner, I was just waiting for the right cast.” According to Sweeney, the play features slapstick humor, but it is also considered a musical, which at first made some Drama Club members, …

Freehold High School Basketball senior Camerin Spahn recaps her season so far and tells Patch what she is looking forward to next year at NJIT.

Camerin Spahn, a senior on the Freehold High School (FHS) Varsity Basketball Colonial team, will be taking on Red Bank Regional High School (RBR) on Tuesday Feb. 26 in the first round of the NJSIAA tournament. As one of the eight FHS students who received an athletic scholarship this year, Spahn caught up with Freehold Patch after officially committing to NJIT and explained what she will miss the most about high school basketball and what she is looking forward to most next year. Freehold High School Announces Newest Hall of Fame Inductees

Five graduates of Freehold High School will be inducted into the Freehold High Hall of Fame.

Five alums of Freehold High School have been invited back to Freehold Borough to be inducted into the Freehold High Hall of Fame. The newest inductees are being recognized for their roles as athletes, coaches and horticulturists. The five will be honored at an April celebration at the Park 33 Restaurant in Freehold. The 2013 honorees are as follows: Joseph Henderson Sr. is being honored posthumously. He played football in the 1950’s and helped lead the football team to several Shore Conference Division titles. Ed Henderson was considered one of the best baseball players in the 1960’s. He pitched and batted his team to the overall Shore Conference Championship in 1960. Frederick Darke graduated from Freehold in 1970 and went on to become a …

Athlete of the Week: Off the Field with Ryan Kasten

Freehold High School football senior Ryan Kasten and Coach Dave Ellis give an inside look into Kasten's football.

Freehold High School (FHS) senior Ryan Kasten was one of the eight FHS students to receive an athletic scholarship. Last week, Kasten officially consented to play Division I football by signing a letter of intent to play college football at Colgate University. FHS Student Athletes Celebrate Signing Letters of Intent

Signing ceremony took place with coaches, family and school administrators.

Proud parents and Freehold High School (FHS) staff gathered in the Five-Star Cafe Tuesday morning to honor student athletes who have received athletic scholarships.  Last week, eight students signed letters of intent to play Divison I athletics, the most in any year from Freehold High School.  “To have one or two students sign is a huge deal, but to have this number of students is a real testament to the athletic program at Freehold High School and also a testament to your commitment, your dedication and your drive,” said FRHSD Superintendent Charles Sampson. Freehold Student Athletes Commit to Division I Schools

Freehold Township High School and Freehold High School student athletes will sign letters of intent today.

A total of 12 student athletes in Freehold Township High School (FTHS) and Freehold High School (FHS) will participate in National Signing Day today and will officially commit to play at their respective universities. This contract is binding. From FTHS, the seven following student athletes will sign their letters of intent today: FTHS will hold a Signing Day ceremony today at 2:15 p.m. The following five student athletes from FHS will sign their letters of intent today: Due to midterms, FHS will have a signing ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 12 to recognize the athletes who signed letters of intent today. According to Jerrilynn Acevedo, Supervisor of Extracurricular Activities at FHS, the following students signed letters of intent in Fall 2012.

Freehold Students Accomplishments Acknowledged by FRHSD

Freehold Regional High School District acknowledged sports accomplishments made by students with Fall Sports Medals.

The Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) Board of Education (BOE) recognized Freehold and Freehold Township athletes Monday night for their outstanding athletic achievements.   From Freehold High School, the girls Gymnastics Team was acknowledged for their Shore Conference Tournament and Sectional titles. For Freehold Township High School, the Field Hockey Team was recognized for being named Central Jersey Group IV State Champions. Also, recognized from Freehold Township High School was a member of the Boys’ Cross Country Team for his Central Jersey Group IV State Champion title. Cher Lloyd Performs for Freehold High School

Freehold High School received a free concert from Cher Lloyd after winning 92.3 NOW FM's 'Last School Standing' Contest.

Freehold High School (FHS) students took a break from their typical Wednesday night activities to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. As winners of 92.3 NOW FM’s ‘Last School Standing’ contest, students saw a private performance with Cher Lloyd, a 2010 X-Factor UK finalist. Singer of chart topping songs “Want U Back” and “Oath”, FHS students cancelled their usual after school activities to see Lloyd perform a private concert for them. “I quit drama so that I could come to this show,” said FHS junior Jordan Hanley. “I cancelled swimming too,” said Lexi McGrath, also a junior at FHS.
