Freehold Township BOE to Vote on New Barkalow Parking Lot

During Tuesday’s Freehold Township Board of Education meeting, the board will vote on a resolution that recommends construction on the Barkalow Middle School parking lot to the New Jersey Department of Education.

The Freehold Township Board of Education (BOE) has a full agenda ahead of them tonight during their first March regular meeting. The BOE met on Tuesday, March 5 to adopt the preliminary 2013-2014 school budget. On Tuesday, March 12 the BOE will meet in the Freehold Township school offices at 8 p.m. to discuss agenda items including staff retirement, new staff employment, construction to the Barkalow Middle School parking lot, a donation to the C. Richard Applegate School from the school’s PTO and sale of equipment. According to the meeting’s agenda, the BOE will vote on Tuesday to approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to approve a resolution that would fix the parking lot and drive of Barkalow Middle School. While 2013 may have just begun, local organizations have already planned out their year with meeting dates. Below is a list of dates that the Freehold Township Committee, Freehold Borough Council, and both the Freehold Borough and Freehold Township Board of Education will meet this year. These meeting dates were announced and approved at each organization's annual reorganization meeting. Freehold Borough Council and Mayor Regular meetings dates for 2013 will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Freehold Borough Offices. BOE Presidents, Vice Presidents, Announced

Freehold Borough and Freehold Township BOE members nominated and elected a President and Vice President at their reorganization meetings.

A Freehold Borough Board of Education (BOE) member has stepped up to be the Vice President of the BOE. At the Freehold Borough BOE and Freehold Township BOE reorganization meetings, board members nominated and elected members to serve as President and Vice President. In Freehold Borough, Annette Jordan was re-elected to the position of President, while Dr. Michael Lichardi took the position of Vice President for the first time. In 2012, Ron Reich served as the board Vice President, but decided to leave his three-year seat prior to the 2012 elections. In Freehold Township, Mindy Wille and Kay Poklemba-Holtz will continue their positions from last year. Wille will serve as President and Holtz Vice President in 2013.

Freehold Reorganization Meeting Dates Announced

Meetings will take place within the first week of the New Year.

With the final meetings of 2012 taking place this week, local government and school elected officials are announcing their first meetings of the New Year.  Reorganization meetings typically take place during the first week of the New Year. The reorganization meetings are where newly elected officials are sworn into office so they can officially begin their duties. In Freehold Borough, the council will hold its reorganization meeting on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Freehold Borough Offices. At the Freehold Borough reorganization meeting, Ron Griffiths will be sworn into office, replacing former Councilman John Newman. Freehold Students Rank in Annual Latino Festival Essay Contest

Students from third to eighth grade participated in the essay contest.

Six Freehold students have been named the winners of The Latino Festival of Monmouth County annual essay contest. Students in third through eighth grade were challenged to write an essay on some aspect of Latino culture or history. The essay contest aims to encourage an appreciation of the cultures and historical contributions of the many Latino communities in the region and country. “We want to thank all the teachers that encouraged their students to take part in the essay contest and most of all we thank the students from all different racial and ethnic backgrounds that took the time to submit essays,” said Angel Matos, Festival Chairman. “It is through civic tasks like this that we build a society that celebrates tolerance, …
