Candidates File in the Freehold Borough, Township Primary Elections

Two seats are open on the Freehold Borough Council and one seat is open on the Freehold Township Committee.

Candidates in Freehold Borough and Freehold Township filed for the June 4 primary. Freehold residents interested in running for the open seats on their governing body had until yesterday to file their petition. This November, there will be two open seats on the Freehold Borough Council and one open seat on the Freehold Township Committee. In Freehold Borough, Council President Kevin Kane and Councilman Jaye Sims will be running as incumbents for the Democratic Party. Residents Ronald DeMarco and Elizabeth Slade have also filed to run for the two open council seats; both DeMarco and Slade will be representing the Republican Party. Freehold Raceway Mall Owner Presents New Luxury Development Project

Macerich, owner of the Freehold Raceway Mall, has teamed up with Roseland Properties to bring a multi-use property to Freehold Township.

The Freehold Township Committee gave owners of a potential new multi-use property their blessing to proceed with presentations to the Master Plan Committee. Roseland Properties and Macerich, owners of the Freehold Raceway Mall, have teamed up to bring a new commercial and residential development to the Trotters Way area of Freehold Township.  During the March 21 committee meeting, Committee members listened to presentations about the potential new property, which would feature luxury apartments, neighborhood stores and other amenities. The new development would be built near the Freehold Raceway Mall and would require the property to undergo a zone change from a commercial use zone to a regional mall zone. Freehold Township Committee Recognizes Varsity Field Hockey Team

After earning numerous titles during their 2012 season, the Freehold Township High School Varsity field hockey team was awarded certificates of achievement from the Freehold Township Committee.

2012 was a banner-year for the Freehold Township High School (FTHS) Varsity field hockey team. During their season, the girls won a North Division Title, won the Central New Jersey Group IV State Championship, went undefeated in the season, had 15 shutouts and were ranked number 10 in New Jersey and the Shore Conference.  Due to their success, the Freehold Township Committee honored the team last week with a certificate of achievement for the multiple athletic highlights the team experienced this year. In addition to the many accomplishments the team earned during the season, the committee recognized the team’s passion and dedication to each other and the sport.

Freehold Junior Pee Wee Pop Warner Team Recognized by Committee

The Freehold Pop Warner Giants Blue Junior Pee Wee Football team received a certificate of achievement for their perfect season and earned division championship.

The Freehold Township Committee awarded 19 athletes a certificate of achievement for their notable football season. The Freehold Pop Warner Giants Blue Junior Pee Wee Football Team finished their season with 10 wins and no losses even though a third of the team never played football before. According to the certificate, the team only allowed 20 points all season and earned a division championship title for winning the championship game in the New Jersey Pop Warner Conference.

Freehold Township Committee Recognizes Read Across America

Read Across America will kick off in Freehold Schools Friday, March 1.

The Freehold Township Committee took some time out of their meeting Monday night to recognize the importance of reading. Friday, March 1 will begin Read Across America in Freehold Township schools. To help kick off the event, Mayor Barbara McMorrow presented a proclamation to Assistant Superintendent Janet Creech, to show the committee’s support of Read Across America.  “The most important thing is that our children become calm, fluent readers and we hope that as they grow older they take those skills with them,” said Creech after receiving the proclamation. “A child who reads 20 minutes a day, it doesn’t matter what it is, will increase their likelihood of being successful in higher education." Freehold Township Residents Asked to Report Needed Roadwork

The Freehold Township Department of Public works has a service form available online for residents to fill out regarding roadwork.

Freehold Township residents can now help get weather-damaged roads fixed, by submitting a service form online. The Freehold Township Public Works Department has updated their page on the township’s website with a service form. By filling out the necessary information on the form, residents can easily report a road issue, such as a pothole, with a few simple clicks. “Our residents can report potholes by going onto our website,” said Committeeman David Salkin. “Our roads have had some damage from the recent storms and our guys have been working feverishly to catch up, but if you see a pothole, report it, because if we don’t know its there we can’t fix it.”    The form on the public works department page also allows residents to submit a …

While 2013 may have just begun, local organizations have already planned out their year with meeting dates. Below is a list of dates that the Freehold Township Committee, Freehold Borough Council, and both the Freehold Borough and Freehold Township Board of Education will meet this year. These meeting dates were announced and approved at each organization's annual reorganization meeting. Freehold Borough Council and Mayor Regular meetings dates for 2013 will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Freehold Borough Offices. Freehold Township Mayor, Committeemen Sworn In

Barbra McMorrow was named Freehold Township Mayor, Anthony Ammiano and Tom Cook were sworn in as a Committeeman.

The New Year has brought a new mayor and a new committee member to Freehold Township. On Friday, Jan. 4 Township reorganization-meeting attendees watched as Barbra McMorrow, Anthony Ammiano and Tom Cook took their new respected positions on the Committee. Following an eventful 2012 term as Mayor, Ammiano took the oath of office to become a Committeeman and was named Deputy Mayor of Freehold Township. Cook, a Committee newcomer, took his first oath of office Friday night as he was sworn in and filled the vacant seat on the Committee after the retirement of Bob McGirr. Freehold First Aid Receives Matching Donation from Township Committee

Committeeman Bob McGirr pledged to match donations up to 5k for the Freehold First Aid squad.

Before getting down to business at the Tuesday night Freehold Township Committee meeting, the committee took some time to recognize the Freehold First Aid Squad and presented them with a matching fundraiser check. At many Freehold Township Committee meetings, members of the First Aid Squad would report to the committee how many calls they went on each month. After hearing about the many calls volunteers went on, Committeeman Bob McGirr decided to help the squad, by pledging to match all donations to the squad up to $5,000.  “Sometimes we take things for granted, but I wanted the First Aid Squad to know that as a committee, and as a community, we don’t take them for granted and we appreciate everything that they do,” said McGirr. “My dad …

Both the Freehold Borough Council and Freehold Township Committee will have new faces serving on their board in 2013.

New faces will be taking their seats on the Freehold Borough Council and Freehold Township Committee in 2013. This week marked the last meetings for Councilman John Newman and Committeeman Robert McGirr in their current capacities. The Monday, Dec. 17 Freehold Borough council meeting was Newman’s last due to the 2012 election turnout.
