POLL: Should Clarence Clemons Have His Day in Jersey?

Monmouth County Sen. Jennifer Beck thinks Jan. 11 should be proclaimed Clarence Clemons Day in the state.

For fans of Clarence Clemons, celebrating the legendary saxophone player's birthday may not be enough.  State Sen. Jennifer Beck (R) of Monmouth County has proposed a resolution making Clemons' birthday, Jan. 11, which would be recognized throughout New Jersey with an proclamation from the governor, according to The (Bergen) Record. Clemons was born in Virginia, but is an original member of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band. The saxophone player died last year at the age of 69 after suffering a stroke and several medical complications. Tell us: Should Clarence Clemons have his own day in New Jersey?

Donate Blood at 12th District Office

The blood drive will be held Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The 12th legislative district team will hold a blood drive in Freehold on Thursday. State Sen. Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande and Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon will hold the district’s 3rd Annual Blood Drive at their office at 35 W. Main Street in Freehold Borough. The drive will run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.  “I am pleased to say that last year was a success,” Casagrande said in a press release issued by the legislators. “I hope that we’ll see even more people this year who step up and offer the gift of life to a stranger in need. Given that 25 percent of all people will need a blood transfusion at some point, a blood donation can be a powerful gift.” Wegmans will provide refreshments for donors. The Breeze radio will be on …

Casagrande's Baby Shower Benefits Birthright

Gifts go to new mothers in need.

A baby shower to benefit Birthright of Monmouth County was held for Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande on Monday at Courtyard on Main in Freehold. Casagrande, who is expecting her second child, said a friend suggested the idea of a shower to benefit pregnant women and new mothers. “She came to me and said there is a need in the community for supplies for women and children,” Casagrande said. She chose Birthright as the beneficiary for the event. “Birthright is the perfect fit. They are a non-political, non-judgmental organization." Birthright is an all-volunteer organization that offers assistance to mothers in need during pregnancy and the first year of their babies’ lives. It provides counseling, referrals for  health care and housing, …
