Teen Forgoes Birthday Gifts for Lyme Research

Following up after last year's success, local teen asks party goers to donate to Lyme research instead of bringing gifts.

For the second year in a row, a Freehold teen has used her birthday as a way to help others. Deanna Warman, 14, set birthday gifts aside and instead asked family and friends to donate money to University of New Haven Lyme Research Program.  Warman’s inspiration for the party came from one of her older sisters, who has been battling Lyme disease for five years and is now in a wheelchair. “When Alyssa was diagnosed with Lyme disease it turned everyone’s world upside down,” said the girls mother Roseanne Warman. “After last year’s successful turnout Deanna wanted to have the party again to raise more money.” While there were some bumps in planning this year’s party, Hurricane Sandy caused the party to be relocated and moved to a later date, …

Lyme Disease Experts To Lecture in Monmouth County

They will talk about the tick-borne disease and its devastating affect on some children.

The peak Lyme disease transmission season in New Jersey is May through August. Knowledge about this devastating disease, the importance of quick treatment and understanding of typical co-infections, are concerns for anyone living in Monmouth County. The Holmdel High School Parent Teacher Student Organization, in cooperation with the non-profit Lyme Disease Association, invites the public to learn more about the silent disease at "Lyme Disease Lecture Night" taking place on April 26, 7-9 p.m. at the Holmdel High School Auditorium, 36 Crawfords Corner Road. Medical experts will talk about the physical, neurological, psychological and emotional aspects of Lyme disease and the infections that can come along with it. Topics to be discussed …

Thank you for this Ms Johnson. My sister in law had Lymes but her doctor caught it early yet it was still very debilatating for her for about six to eight months. Everyone should learn about this disease.   more ›
