Freehold Idol: Tie Leads to Four Winners in Second Round

Judges had their work cut out for them Wednesday night.

The participants in the second round of Freehold Idol stopped traffic in front of the Hall of Records Wednesday night with their singing talents. Downtown Freehold, the town's business partnership, sponsors the contest, which is held Wednesday nights and is hosted by Lisa Anderson of radio station WWZY, The Breeze. Freehold resident Nina Sophia Mojares, a student of Freehold Idol judge Brenda K. Starr, opened and closed the show with a stunning voice and professional poise far beyond her 12 years. Winners Selected in First Round of Freehold Idol

Katherine Bibilouri, Amanda Fugel and Frances Jorgensen will appear in the finals.

A little hail wasn’t about to stop area singers from competing in the first round of Freehold Idol Wednesday evening. Instead of performing in front on the Hall of Records, the crooners took their talents to the American Hotel where Freehold Borough Arts Council President Neal Girandola, singer Brenda K. Starr, and Monmouth Academy of Musical Arts founder Joe Orlando judged them. The winners were Katherine Bibilouri, of Manalapan, in the 10 to 14 age group; Amanda Fugel, of Manalapan, in the 15 to 22 age group; and Frances Jorgensen, of Lakewood, in the 23 and above age group. Bibilouri sang “Reflection,” Fugel chose “Mirror,” and Jorgensen performed “If He Walked Into My Life.” The three singers will move on to the final round, which will…

Freehold Idol Prizes Announced

Singing competition begins Wednesday, June 1.

Downtown Freehold has announced the prizes for this year’s Freehold Idol, which begins Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Hall of Records. The first place winner in each age group will receive $500 and recording time at the Monmouth Academy of Musical arts; the second place winner will receive $250; and the third place winner will receive $100. Downtown Freehold is still accepting applications for Freehold Idol auditions. Singers age 10 years and older will get a chance to show off their talent in the fourth annual singing contest. Each week, the contestants are judged and the best performers move to a final round. The top three vocalists receive prizes. The performances take place every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. during the summer…
