Dec. 7 was Adoption Day in Monmouth County. 22 children officially became family members of 18 Monmouth County families.
For 18 Monmouth County families, Friday marked the end of the adoption process and the beginning of a new family life. Friday, Dec. 7 was Adoption Day in Monmouth County. A crowded jury assembly room in the Monmouth County Courthouse was the staging room for the families as they waited to be called into a judge’s quarters for their court hearing and official adoption. According to a press release, 22 children between the ages of two months and 13-years-old were officially adopted last week. One of the 22 children adopted was Lucas Cole, who was coming up his first birthday. Bomb threat took place on Oct. 25 and caused courthouse to be evacuated.
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a man in connection to the Oct. 25 bomb threat against the Monmouth County Courthouse. Ellis W. Goodson, 35, allegedly made a 9-1-1 call on Thursday, Oct. 25 and warned that a bombing would take place at the courthouse that day. In a previous article, Patch reported that a bomb threat against the Courthouse came from a 9-1-1 call around 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. At 12:30 p.m. the Courthouse was evacuated and area K-9 explosives-detecting dogs were brought in to sweep the building. After a sweep of the building, no explosives were found, but due to the amount of time required for the sweep, the courthouse was closed down for the rest of the day. Several indictments concerning Freehold were made on July 18.
Several indictments were made by Monmouth County grand juries on July 18 that involved residents of Freehold and crimes allegedly committed in the area. Catherine Delre, 43, of Freehold was indicted on one count of conspiracy (to commit theft) and one count of shoplifting, both third degree crimes, along with David R. Roth, 41, of Howell. Roth allegedly came to Delre’s cash register at Lowe’s, where he pretended to purchase merchandise while Delre did not actually ring up the items and charge Roth. William B. Dore, 19, of Freehold, was indicted on one count of burglary and one count of theft committed on or between May 21 and May 24. Testing comes back negative
After a week of being closed the Monmouth County Courthouse will open again on Tuesday afternoon. The building will open to the public as of 1:30 p.m. according to Monmouth County Public Information Officer Laura Kirkpatrick. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services said in a press release Monday afternoon that since the courthouse was closed on June 18 all test results have come back negative. The testing and closure came as a result of dozens of employees reported feeling ill on two separate occasions. State Health Department officials took 10 air samples and also looked for "a wide range of 'volatile organic compounds.'" Among the items tested for were benzene and chemicals found in cleaners. The Monmouth County Courthouse will remain closed on Monday as officials await the results of testing to determine what has made employees ill recently. Tests were conducted last Thursday and Friday and the building has been closed since last Monday. According to a press release from the county testing has been done for "volatile compounds, mold, pollen, dust and other common allergens." All the results from those tests came back negative. The Monmouth County Courthouse will remain closed this week as health officials continue to investigate what caused more than 60 employees to become sick on Friday and Monday. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services will conduct prolonged air quality tests Thursday and Friday, according to a press release issued by the county. Initial testing for common allergens and volatile compounds did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. The Monmouth County Courthouse will again be closed Wednesday as county officials continue to test for the source of what caused about 65 to be sick Monday. William K. Monmouth County officials are not sure about what caused 65 people to fall ill at the county courthouse Monday afternoon. "We have no idea what might have caused this," said William Heine, a representitive of Monmouth County. Police and emergency responders rushed to the Monmouth County Courthouse after it was evacuated around 1 p.m. due to multiple employees falling ill. Workers evacuated the building for the second time in two business days. The building was evacuated on Friday, June 15. During that incident, 43 people were treated at the scene of the incident.
