Purchase the Park System Golf Card for discounts and tee time reservations.
Golf season is upon us as all six county golf courses get set to open on Monday, March 4. But in order to get the most of this season, the county is offering the Park System Golf Card, which offers discounted rates and access to the tee time reservation system. According to a county news release, county and non-county golfers can choose between a one-year golf card for $44 or a discounted two-year golf card for $75. Cards will be honored one or two years from the date of purchase. Non-resident golfers can also choose a full privilege card for $350. Join Santa on Dec. 22 and 23 in Holmdel.
Somehow, the Monmouth County Parks System landed a visit from Santa. The big guy will be at Longstreet Farm in Holmdel on Dec. 22 and 23 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., an event the parks system is describing as an old-fashioned "Victorian Christmas." Children can sit with Santa and enjoy hot apple cider, families are asked to bring their own cameras. On Dec. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m., meet Santa as you also enjoy the sounds of the season. Christmas carols will be played by Larry Moser and Mary Nagen on the hammered dulcimer and fiddle.

The Monmouth County Parks System offers free tee times during the week.
Golf season is far from over, and the Monmouth County Parks System is reminding residents not to pack away the clubs just yet. Off-peak season on county-run golf courses means free tee times, friends and family specials and free loyalty rounds on several courses throughout the county. Special discounts and free rounds are offered Monday through Friday after 11 a.m., and after 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays. In many of Monmouth County's parks, deer hunting is an exercise in deer management. The hunting program was initiated in 2004, when Monmouth County experienced a booming population of white-tailed deer that was proven to threaten forestation in the county. The Monmouth County Parks System recognizes hunting as a means to control deer population, and therefore control the rate of deforestation in county parks. "We are not out there hunting just because we want to, we are rally seriously trying to manage the deer population," said Karen Livingstone, Public Information Officer for the Monmouth County Parks System. The start of summer has made itself known, with temperatures reaching almost 100 degrees and blanket heat advisories across the state. And summer is apparent at Colts Neck's Sprayground in Dorbrook Park, where families attempted to escape the heat by running through sprinklers and playing in shooting spouts of water coming from the ground. Sound like a water park? Sprayground basically is. With small wading pools and water spraying everywhere, Sprayground serves as a free way for park visitors to cool off and have some fun.
