Rosemarie D. Peters and Shaun Golden named to Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey
Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie D. Peters and Sheriff Shaun Golden have been named President and Vice President, respectively, of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey(COANJ) according to a news release from the county. Golden, a Howell resident, was elected sheriff in 2011 after replacing current Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno when she left for the post in Trenton. Peters is in her sixth year as surrogate and also has been named the Judiciary-Surrogate Liaison Committee for the New Jersey Supreme Court. She also served on the Middletown Township Committee as a committeewoman, deputy mayor and mayor. Peters served as the vice president of the COANJ this year while Golden served as its secretary. The first permanent drug drop box in Monmouth County will be located in the lobby of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office.
Monmouth County is taking a stand against prescription drug use with the first ever permanent drug drop box. Instead of Monmouth County residents waiting for their local municipalities to hold “operation take backs,” Freehold now has a permanent place for all Monmouth County residents to safely dispose of their unused medications. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference on Tuesday to introduce the drop box and announce drug programs local organizations in the county are working on. Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden announced applications are now being accepted for enrollment in the 16th Annual Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a 12-hour block of instruction designed to give attendees an overview of law enforcement services in Monmouth County. The instruction features presentations by municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The course consists of six sessions on consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold. The course is also the prerequisite for becoming a member of the VISCOMP Volunteer Program. Sgt. David Finck of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office was one of 264 law enforcement officers to graduate.
A Freehold Township resident graduated from the FBI National Academy after ten weeks of intensive training. Sgt. David Finck of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office was one of 264 law enforcement officers from the 249th session of the academy located in Quantico, Virginia. The class consisted of men and women from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 28 international countries, three military organizations and five federal civilian organizations. “I’m grateful to have been chosen to attend such a prominent program and work with fine members of law enforcement from across the globe,”said Sgt. Monmouth County Sheriff's Office program provides inmate labor to municipalities.
At a time when the Howell Department of Public Works is busy with many projects including the town's new municipal building the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office provided a few extra hands this week. On Wednesday that included working at the new municipal building before clearing the grounds around the monuments and memorials at the old Town Hall on Thursday. Sheriff Shaun Golden, a Howell resident, said the Inmate Labor Program is meant to provide assistance to towns throughout the county without costing the taxpayers any additional money. Golden said his department has two crews that get dispersed throughout Monmouth County to help where they are needed. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, the FTPD along with over 40 other Monmouth County law enforcement agencies will collect unwanted medication as part of the National Take Back Initiative. The purpose of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) program is to clean your home out of unused, unneeded, and expired medications and bring them to local law enforcement officials who will dispose of the medications in a safe and non-hazardous manner. The camp's 2011 class was comprised of 77 students from over 30 towns.
Sheriff Youth Week is not your typical summer camp. Teens participating in the program, which was held at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold Township July 11-15, spent their mornings completing drills, their afternoons in physical training, and received instruction from law enforcement professional throughout the day. The program is sponsored by the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office. “The students learn discipline, commitment and the basic foundations of what enforcement is about,” said Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officer James Fay, who directs the program.
