Forecast shows a break from snow early on
Washington's Birthday may have been chilly and sunny, but Tuesday looks to be rainy but warm. The high temperature for Tuesday is expected to be around 52 degrees before a low of 29 at night but there is no snow in the forecast for much of the area. There is expected to be less than half an inch of precipitation during the day and night. Once the rain clears on Wednesday the temperature is predicted to set at a high near 40 before a low of 22 on an otherwise breezy day. Thursday looks to be much of the same with a high near 37 and a low near 23. A possible storm at the end of the week could bring rain or snow on Friday and Saturday. Total snowfall depends on track of the storm
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm watch for much of the local area as a potentially powerful storm makes its way up the east coast. According to the watch the storm will likely develop near the Carolinas tomorrow and work its way to our area through Friday night. The storm will likely bring a mix of potentially heavy snow, sleet and rain as it moves on its path. The amount of snow could vary depending on the track and speed of the storm but the most recent forecast predicts between 5 and 10 inches. The heaviest snow will likely fall in northwestern New Jersey and into the Poconos according to the watch. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Freehold area tonight into tomorrow morning. Winds between 20 and 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 are expected Wednesday evening. NWS predicts that the gusts may bring down trees, impacting power lines. The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday before 10 p.m. and showers throughout the evening with a low aroudn 48 degrees. Thursday is expected to be partly sunny with the temperature dropping to about 39 degrees by 5 p.m. Overnight, there will be a low of about 29 degrees. According to the alert, the fog warning issued earlier today has been canceled.

Cold temperatures to last through the weekend
The powerful storm that was expected to hit our area starting tomorrow looks to have weakened and the National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting much less snowfall to cover our area. According to the most recent predictions from the NWS the storm is expected to arrive Friday afternoon and go through Friday night but there should only be a maximum of four inches falling on the ground. Many areas may see only an inch of snow or less depending on where they are in the path of the storm. The snowfall may not be as bad as what was originally predicted but the temperatures over the next few days will remain at or below the freezing mark. The National Weather Service issued the statement due to Monday night’s snowfall and today’s icy road conditions.
Monmouth County residents woke up this morning to the first snow of 2013. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), anywhere from a half-inch, to an inch and a half of snow fell Monday night, causing hazardous road conditions this morning. At 8:30 a.m. the NWS reported that it was 18 degrees in Freehold, but with the wind chill, it felt more like 6 degrees outside. Due to the drop in temperature, the NWS has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of New Jersey, including Monmouth County. The Special Weather Statement asks residents to watch out for icy road conditions this morning, suggesting that drivers use extra care while on the roads and to leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. No Snow in the forecast
The wet weather that arrived this weekend looks to continue into Tuesday according to the National Weather Service (NWS) but after that the sun should make an extended appearance in our area. Starting today the rain will continue but with a high of 65 degrees it will at least be a warm day after the predicted fog clears up. The low temperature for tonight will drop into the mid 40s as the rain is expected to continue at least through the day tomorrow. The high temperature will be around 48 degrees Tuesday before dropping down to a low of 31 degrees Tuesday night. Mostly nice weather for the week ahead.
If the National Weather Service is right, a storm predicted to arrive tonight and into tomorrow should mean mostly rain for the Jersey Shore region while areas to the north and west could see at least a mix of rain and snow. The high temperature for today looks to be around 49 before dropping down to the mid 30's tonight with little to no snow accumulation expected for tonight. Tuesday morning will not bring a big increase in the temperature with a high of just 39 but more rain will fall throughout the day. Tuesday night should see more rain falling until just before midnight even with a low temperature of 31 degrees bringing the area close to more snow hitting the ground. Number of residents without power rise as Nor’Easter hits Monmouth County.
This story was updated at 8:30 a.m. Thursday with updated numbers from the outage map. Before power was fully restored, Wednesday’s Nor’Easter caused power outages to rise in Freehold. According to JCP&L’s outage map, on Thursday morning over 4,000 Freehold reisdents are without power. At 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, over 3,000. Currently, the map shows 3,871 outages in Freehold Township and 303 outages in Freehold Borough. Before the Nor’Easter hit, some Freehold residents were still without power nine days after Hurricane Sandy hit Monmouth County. The Nor'Easter that was predicted earlier this week should hit our area later today and while some places will see their first real snow accumulation the area closer to the shore should see mostly rain. In Freehold, the National Weather Service is stating that rain and snow will alternate throughout the day and night. Four warnings have been issued for our area including a high wind warning, a hazardous weather outlook, coastal flood warning and a winter weather advisory. According to the NWS the storm will bring strong winds blow with sustained winds of 25 to 32 MPH with gusts reaching as high as 55 MPH during the day. Could bring strong storms next week
The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the National Weather Service are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Sandy to see what impact it might have on the area as it moves up the coast. While the track of the storm has yet to be finalized Monmouth County officials are also urging residents to be prepared for what may be heading our way. "We have seen the damage that a hurricane can cause and I hope that residents will take precautions as we monitor the progression of this storm," Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said.
