Volunteers Needed to Assist in Evacuation Shelter During Emergencies

Volunteers interested in staffing evacuation shelters can attend an information session on May 4 at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold.

The following information is from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Emergency Management and the United Way of Monmouth have launched a recruiting campaign that is seeking volunteers to assist in the staffing of evacuation shelters during emergencies. This program is being conducted through a Memorandum of Understanding that was entered into by both agencies in August of 2012 in an effort to increasingly engage other Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD’s) into the County Emergency Operations Plan.  The concept of this proactive initiative is based upon the Office of Emergency Management’s desire to build and strengthen public private partnerships while engaging organizations …
